Yes a pattern would definitely help to hide it. I'd buff the nail first to smooth it out as much as poss, then either a pattern or chunky glitter to hide it. Dark coloured nail varnish will disguise it better than light coloured.

A good ridge filling base coat might also help.

I have not done well with my nails tonight. I put on a base coat last night and then 2 coats of No7 Milan and a top coat this evening. Smudged it making the bed so took it all off. Again base coat tehn 2 coats of (Revlon?) midnight blue no top coat. Then scagged it so had to take it all off again! I think I might need to get some fast drying top coat type stuff. Does it harden the varnish though if you have lots of layers on or would you put a layer of NV, then top coat then NV and so on?

Glad to see the advice about splits. DD's nails are awful. Have put on base coat with ridge filler and a coat of No7 Milan with a clear top coat. Am waiting for some stop'n grow for her to see if it stops her munching. I keep showing her my nails and explaining how awful her nails will look if she continues to bite them or cut them really short.

My dd's nails are awful too (although she is only 8). I just think that not only are they incredibly short but she is doing so much damage to them now that even if she wanted to start growing them it would be hard work.

Now that I've started painting mine again she is really sitting up and taking an interest so maybe if mine look wonderful it will give her the motivation to stop biting. Besides nail polish looks awful on badly bitten down nails.

I was a terriblenail biter, my mum got me stop and grow, I should use it now... for weight loss! From what I remember (I was about 8) it gets on everything, you cant eat snacks but even using a knife and fork you "taste" it (think that might have just been the smell)
later on, for a short while I got a job in the factory that made it. It has haunted me ever since!

Your nails look so lovely now, can't imagine you ever bit them unless you had said.:)

I was never a biter, but a nibbler of the dry skin around my fingers, used to get so sore in the winter.

When you do your nails, could you give your DD a little manicure, soak in warm soapy water, gently push the cuticles back and then massage with almond oil or the like. One of those hand models said recently that she only uses almond oil (but she does moisturise about 30 times a day).
