Has anyone on here ever imported nail polish from the US? Sorry if you've discussed it before. Know it's liable to attract vat but import duty looks unlikely unless you spend hundreds of pounds. Just wondered if anyone had tried it before? You are all very dedicated polish enthusiasts and I can't find any accounts of the experiences people in the UK have had trying to import it so thought this looked like a good place to ask?
Thanks

I am a nail polish addict and every summer i buy up to 40 in the time of about 30-60 days. About 2 days ago I decided to buy a nail polish but I did want to waste about £3-4 on it as i can try finding it cheaper. I looked around a local Boots and Superdrug but there was no luck for me apart from a " 3 for the price of 2" offer which wouldve been about £6 for 3 nail polishes. All my nail polishes are a good quality and I wanted to check out what or how bad the nail polishes are in corner shops or shops like the 99p store.
I found a 99p store and it had about 4 different packs of nail polishes.
1st pack: 2 big bottles of nail polish
2nd pack: 2 little bottles of nail polish
3rd pack: a set of 3 polishes. 1 of them is see through and the other 2 are crackle
4th pack: a french manicure set. a white nail polish, a see-through and a pink/orangey, 2 files and a pack of 30 nail guides.
I seemed to have the "3rd pack" as a friend had gotten me it last year for my birthday and the quality was ok but obviously not as good as the brand nail polishes and is quite thick after a while. The frenh manicure set attracted my attention and so i bought it.
At home I looked at the back of the box it was in and look at where it says what the box contains. (the box had a see-through bit at the front so that you could see everything inside)
Here is what it said...
Contains:
6ml White Nail Varnish
6ml Pink Nail Varnish
30 Nail Guides
2 Nail Files
This seemed REALLY strange as when i actually opened the box I saw that the information at the back of it was not entirely correct...
Here are things they wrote wrong...
- The "6ml Pink Nail Varnish" wasnt pink, it was a peachey-orangey colour.
- They had not written that there is a 6ml See-through Nail Varnish in the set.
Thats pretty much it. I was quite shocked after reading the instructions because as many of you may know you apply the white and then the light skin/pink colour over it. I tried out the peachey/orangey colour on my nails and it was definitely not transparent but was very solid and opaque so I was confused how on earth am I supposed to get the white bits visible. So now im doing everything the other way round : peachey/orangey colour on first, then white tips or I just do everything as said on the box but i use one of my light light pink nail varnishes.
This is very long but I hope it somehow helped of seing where to buy nail polish and more!
P.S. sorry if there are any mistakes as i typed this up really quickly and wasnt bothered to read through it again.0 -
I love nail polishes! I wish I could afford to buy loads but I can't.
I bought 7 nail polishes this summer. One for £2 and it wasn't that great. And another 6 for £5 (I really wanted to make use of this offer!). I wasn't happy with all my colours unfortunately.
