I've got the George one and it's fine. I only buy George when they've got an offer on so regular polishes are only £1 though1008 Hollywalk Park Blog0 -
Hi Folks,
I'm going to say this once on here. Whatever you think about the rule we have in place that doesn't allow linking to blogs, this is a private site and the rule exists. It has done for many years.
The events of yesterday alerted us to this thread and the fact people are linking to their blogs. Please don't do it. This forum can happily display a lot of information you might want to blog about so there should be no reason to direct people elsewhere.
I appreciate you might not agree with it but currently it's something you accept if you wish to use this forum, for which you pay nothing. You may have a link in your profile, and if people happen to spot it and visit you without any user directing them on the forum, that's always been our concession.
I'm sorry for some of you it isn't popular, but it's actually something that helps protect the forum from spam, companies using it as a way to advertise or generate revenue and other similar reasons.
I can't be much clearer but please don't post ways to sidestep this rule; we'd regrettably have to start closing accounts. I don't intend to keep going over this as our rule is well established so please take it as a final warning.
What I will promise you, however, is that we will discuss blogs in general at our next meeting and what our policy might be in the future. That isn't just lip service to pacify here; I appreciate it's clearly important enough to users for us to look into. We just need to consider the implications.
However it is current policy.

What you can't do on here is offer proper facilities to do things which has emanated from a group of similarly addicted people setting up. Ie an actual nail challenge. Pictures are posted on this thread, however the vast majority still keep them all linked off site because it is just not possible to do so and keep them updated and connected in a very rigid environment.
Also trying to keep MSE like, reduce waste, and share Polishes via the links of a swap/sale is not able to be done on this forum set up due to the rules.
I am not really concerned about the rules itself, can't say I've broken them etc, however hidden changes will always bring up issues, and in particular url/blog issues.
If good ole Martin can have a blog posted on here, why are others not allowed to do it? At the very least there are mini blogs forced into a forum post set up, because you wont allow any add-ons of which could be modified and monitored to make it "fit into" the rules.
I feel that the forums (in many aspects, not just this thread here) are being expanded by the user base into things it just can't cope with. It's is unavoidably evolving, and the forum can't keep up.
Not to mention it seems like crackdown is a vast issue since the sale went ahead.
Harmless until spotted. Then a terrible crime.0 -
We don’t receive any benefit from our blogs, no advertising revenue and no sponsorship. If people are using it as a form of spam I think you should address those individuals directly and not just ban things blanketly. I actually linked back here from my blog so viewers from other areas would find the forum and generate income for MSE the company. Unfortunately it is a company these days, Martin sold you if you have forgotten.
I think what sticks in my throat particularly is that twitter links received the same ban yesterday, but this was quickly overruled because the people in the comping thread were unhappy with it. So it feels like there is a two tier system where you don’t mind upsetting us, but you don’t want to upset them. That doesn’t feel fair and twitter can be used for promotion, advertising and revenue just the same as a blog can. There was no need for a meeting in the future for consideration, it was just done. Do you care more about their input on the forum than ours?
Okay, so I am the terrible cretin that highlighted that your rule which is only newly enforced can be circumnavigated. However, I haven’t posted on here how to do it, because I understand that it would just be rubbing your noses in the fact that the rule may be there, but it is in effect unenforceable in the way you think it is. I consider my knuckles wrapped, just like I did when I was at school. Thank you.0 -

Drat! If you, or anyone else, spots any I'd buy up a load then you can sell them on to us nutters - over on FB of course.0 -

Thanks for pointing that out. We might not pay anything but the forum members made this forum what it is today.0 -

When this site hosts our photographs then that is of some use to us. Until then we use our blogs.

As has been pointed out, this forum only became what it is today through us, its users. We may pay nothing but don't forget who built it up.
I'm sorry for some of you it isn't popular, but it's actually something that helps protect the forum from spam, companies using it as a way to advertise or generate revenue and other similar reasons.
Ok, and twitter doesn't do that? If a link to a private blog would open the forum up to spam and advertising then Twitter would do it tenfold. How many spam twitter accounts are there out there? Millions. I've received 4 Tweets this morning from spam companies. How many have I received to my blog since I started it? That would be none.
I'd personally suggest that the ban on Twitter was only lifted because MSE doesn't want to upset the compers and I feel that it is completely unfair. If blog links are going to continue to be banned then Twitter links should as well. But that wont happen will it? I'm guessing MSE gains revenue from the Compers.

As I said, if the implications of personal blogs are that they can be used to Spam and advertise then surely the same needs to be done for Twitter and Facebook etc.0 -

This forum would simply not be here if it wasn't for people who, as you put it 'pay nothing' please don't forget that. In fact I'm pretty sure it's the first rule of managing a site.1008 Hollywalk Park Blog0 -
Oooh missed all this.
Like others I've linked to my blog. Main reason being its the easiest way to share pics since MSE doesn't host photos.
Equally I've linked to other bloggers to show of techniques, polishes or anything interesting. Blogging is a massive part of the polish community.
Bit sad really.I'm so boring, my clothes wanna keep someone else warm, someone cooler0 -
