I applied 2 coats of Gosh Holo, one coat of anti chip top coat. Ironed OH's work shirts which is hardly extreme extertion, every nail is chipped.
This isn't an everyday polish by any means!

I knew it was 'chippy' but wow. I'm glad I found it reduced because I think this is the only bottle of it i'll buy. Good for a (rare) night out, but otherwise not practical.

I've managed to make it last 3-4 days before it chips. Did you use a base coat? You need to scrub your nails clean before you paint it on, and between each coat, if you've any oil on your nails it'll chip quickly.

I didn't base coat it no because I couldn't decide what colour to use as a base or if to go with a clear coat. May try again then. DO you use the proper base coat or an alternative?

I do have a proper holo base coat (not a GOSH one, it's one that came with the Virgin Vie pink holo) but I can't say it makes that much difference to be honest. Maybe makes it a bit easier to apply. Any old clear base coat should do.

My routine if I'm using holo is:
    1. buff nails a bit
    2. scrub them clean (soap and nail brush, rinse well)
    3. base coat, let it dry properly
    4. scrub nails
    5. first holo coat, let it dry properly
    6. wash hands again (wouldn't scrub at this stage, might damage the holo)
    7. top coat, let it dry properly
    8. wash hands again
    9. second holo coat

Sandwiching the top coat between the holo coats definitely made it last longer for me.

Can anyone here do gradient manicures, because mine looks rubbish. Any ideas where I am going wrong?

  • Lady S :That doesn't look like a fail to me it looks cool! :) Maybe try it with a darker pink just along the very top so the effect stands out more? xx

The gradient is fine; but personally i think the colours are wrong. The paler peachy pink is really close to your skin tone that it blends in and then rather than looking like a grandient it just looks like you have painted the tips on you nails.

Like the change to the blog layout tho - much cleaner and easier to read.

I've done gradients a few times. I find less is better, dab the sponge on some paper first so there's not too much on it and build it up gradually. If you add the top coat as soon as you've finished dabbing it helps to blend it.

I've seen tutorials where they put two colours on the sponge, but I've only ever done it with one. Which way did you do it?
