  • Oooh loving all the purples. I don't have many purples actually - I'd really like something greyed out and pale.

Here is my rather outrageous indigo/violet entry:

Gorgeous! (Wouldn't last five minutes on me though, I'm far too clumsy.)
  • Haha starry. My five year old made one with a black nail and gold (a-england Princess Sabra) bow with some Hidden Treasure thrown on for good measure and didn't even make it down the stairs to show daddy before it came off.

Hi all, I was hoping to pick your lovely brains for some advice.

I recently had my first professional manicure (on sat) and it has definately resparked my interest in looking after my nails. I've been reading this thread but there's just so much of it! I have now learned that the tips should have been wrapped and that I know nothing about cuticle care or filing, just which colours I like!:o

As I work outside my nails get pretty beaten up - what type of file would be good for nails that split easily? I'm also assuming I need a fairly strong nail polish and top coat, my nails get badly scratched. They don't get very long before splitting either.

I don't know how to post pics, I've got a lovely purple on if its the right colour this week. An OPI with irridesence and shimmer though it. Silly me forgot to check the name on the bottle when picking it :o

    Hi!

Ideally you need a crystal file, Leighton Denny's are very popular but I believe the OPI ones are good too. Using a crystal file will help to prevent splitting/flaking/peeling. I guess if you work outside you'll need to keep your nails fairly short. What do you do?

Hi Starry, I'm an archaeologist so work varies but can include a lot of manual labour. I find digging gravels and boulder clay especially damaging. Will def need a good file, ty for the recommendation :) my nails don't need to be short, its just difficult to grow them longer than 3mm past the finger tip.

The surface of the nail gets badly scratched so I'm hoping to keep a top coat etc on to protect them
