They're really helpful - I used to get massive migraines because of the screens where I worked and they gave me information on what companies are legally obliged to do. To be honest the company I worked for sounds exactly like yours!! They were also really funny about taking sick leave (they told me I HAD to come into work after I'd called in sick, and then later I got a warning for not calling in sick when in fact I had just no one had bothered to answer the phone, on another occasion one of the head managers told us we should "be glad that at least we HAD a job", and I can go on for hours). Anyway in the end I took them to an employment tribunal, I lost (was representing myself) but I know for a fact they spent a massive amount on their legal representation, and I loved seeing my former managers shaking in the witness chair.
Anyway - I strongly suggest you contact Acas; they'll be able to give you information about the law.

hi thanks for all the advice i have recieved, i have been to midwife today, everything ok with baby so baby must just be resting on a nerve.
i rung work and she said she wanted to have a good chat with me today because of the conversation we had yesterday, she has said i mis-took what she said, she wasnt making out i was a liar she said that there's a precedure they have to follow, so thats why she asked questions, although not alot of questions were asked to me it just sounded like accusations so wether she's had time to think and realised or wether i genuinly took her wrong i dont know but she has now said that when i come back to work they will look at me maybe doing something else like being in the cash office where i can sit down rather than being on my feet all day so hopefully now they know i'm genuine that i will have a better experience for the rest of my pregnancy but if i need anymore help i know where to come

How do you know that for a fact? They could as my company does pay an insurance to a employment advice company and get their fees paid for if it went to tribunal...The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

I'm pleased your manager is back tracking but please remain cautious. Still find the number to the HR team you will need it at some stage, even if just to ask questions about your maternity pay due, find out where you can read a copy of the company's grievance procedure and for good measure get a copy of the sickness absence procedure so you can ensure you are fully complying. It could be a colleague you ask, another supervisor, or even if you find the HQ telephone number (likely to be available on the internet if it is a large retail group) then ask for HR at least you'll have the details for future reference.
