Do you ever wonder where this is going to end?

Every week we hear of something closing with X amount of jobs lost, and its rare you hear of any new companies opening, the job market is dead and the government doesn't have a clue how to fix it, sure they have silly things like the work programme which only real purpose is to make the unemployment numbers look better than they are, I just wonder how much worse can it really get before it gets better?

falko, you've started a lot of threads this week. There is no problem with that but i wonder if you are feeling ok or a bit stressed and a chat with someone in real life would help?

have you talked to your doctor at all, or your family?

    it's not all bad.

I was part of a new opening three months ago, over 100 jobs now. That is excluding the 300 builders who were employed before that, and the people who support us i.e. suppliers etc.

in the area there are a other good news stories as well.

And the irony of it is they are making us oldies work longer leaving less places for youngsters.
Personally I think it is going to get a lot lot worse.
I think we are going to have to re-learn some of the thrift that our parents/grandparents needed in the post war years.
    Spam anyone? :(
OP another post you made said you were a trained carpenter in NI. Sorry but I don't know what NI stands for?
But I understand the carpenter bit. Have you tried working for yourself? All the tradespeople I know are snowed under with work. Those who do a good job at reasonable rates don't even have to advertise - their name gets passed around.

With an ever ageing and increasing population, together with worldwide financial troubles for the majority of countries we are in a new era where high unemployment will be the norm.

Governments and analysts aren't going to say this though as it will hit the markets massively with a loss of confidence, however anyone who understands economics knows that this is the route we are heading.

So in answer to the question this is never going to end as such, we'll never see a low unemployment of below 2m anytime soon, perhaps not for at least 20+ years, that is the harsh reality.

I am a bit stressed with it all to be honest. I guess I post on here as I don't really have anyone to talk to, and well us guys don't like to talk about our feelings.

The advisor in my Job centre this week said similar, she see's it getting worse.

As for the carpentry, yes if and when my redundancy comes through I am going to set myself up doing this, its just the doing nothing now.

Well it makes the number of inactive people look better, they plunk them on this scheme, It'll be interesting to find out how many people actually find work at the end of it.

True, but if no one gets a job out of it... what the hell is the point of the 'WP' then ?

My brother has recently refused to go on it, and so far they haven't threaten sanctions.. (so it makes you wonder..)

WP is illegal and should be stopped.
