And the irony of it is they are making us oldies work longer leaving less places for youngsters.
Personally I think it is going to get a lot lot worse.
I think we are going to have to re-learn some of the thrift that our parents/grandparents needed in the post war years.
    Spam anyone? :(
OP another post you made said you were a trained carpenter in NI. Sorry but I don't know what NI stands for?
But I understand the carpenter bit. Have you tried working for yourself? All the tradespeople I know are snowed under with work. Those who do a good job at reasonable rates don't even have to advertise - their name gets passed around.

    Northern Ireland at a guess

The advisor in my Job centre this week said similar, she see's it getting worse.

As for the carpentry, yes if and when my redundancy comes through I am going to set myself up doing this, its just the doing nothing now.

Well you could start by putting cards in windows. Take the small jobs that big firms often don't want to bother with. Small jobs lead to bigger jobs and word of mouth promotion.

The 'real' unemployment figures - if we ever got to know them - would really highlight how serious the employment situation is.

There are many who are not factored into the 'official' figures and it wouldn't surprise me that the true UK unemployment figures are aroung the 5 million mark.

When I said that this was not a "recession" but a reduction in our economy due to us allowing imported goods to enter untaxed from source, they laughed.
But no, it wont ever end until we kick this lot of pocket stuffing greedy career MP's out and get some people elected who have turned a pound in life.
This bunch of hooray henry silver spooners could not care a hoot about silly things like peoples jobs and homes, they are making too much cash by exploiting their positions in other incomes.
We should pay MP's a fair wage and ban them having any other paid income or privileges, that would see this bunch clear straight off and we may get someone who has half an idea about working people.

This last bit I agree with, the rest is just a rant.

What is reasonable though, for me I would reduce the number of MP's and increase their salary to 150K plus, if not more so that we got the best people possible.

But I know alot will disagree with paying them more!

Why would they need £150k to do what is a part time job.
    That is proven !
The fact that most have on average 4 other positions shows it to be "part time"

True, but if no one gets a job out of it... what the hell is the point of the 'WP' then ?

My brother has recently refused to go on it, and so far they haven't threaten sanctions.. (so it makes you wonder..)

WP is illegal and should be stopped.
OMG it is NOT illegal!!!! You just attend like you do the JC

I doubt very much your brother has refused to go tho the WP as its not his choice . The JC send you there and if you do not turn up you WILL be sanctioned
