And then, it starts up with a new user id for each post.

Fortunately, this is just one site being pimped in this way. But I fear that this is the shape of things to come. Email spam has had its day. OK it still goes on, the responses used to be 1 per 10,000 or 100,000 spams. I bet it is at least 100 times less now. Which means that if everyone in the world was spammed, there would be between 500 and 5,000 responders. Hence determined efforts to spam forums such as this.

I suspect we are in for about 5 years of determined bulk spamming from losers who cannot see that no one wants their rubbish.

The Forums use ReCaptcha, these are AFAIK only possible to input correctly by a human being i.e. not with a computer. No human is going to sign up for an account and type in Captchas every few minutes if they are just going to get banned and the links blacklisted permanently. They will quickly get bored. Particularly if the links need to be varied each time, so the previous ones posted they will lose track of.

I seem to recall a slashdot item a while back indicating that captchas had been broken to some degree by employing people in the 3rd world to address them manually. I imagine there are parts of the world where people would do captcha breaking for $0.50 per 100.

thanks everyone, I'm going to move this to the site feedback board.

The board guides do try and delete as much as possible when they are around, the problem is that they are automated spambots who post every minute until they are turned off.

Yes, definitely true... But if they see the forum erases spammy posts quickly they will move on to another that doesn't, just as fast :)

Some software can get around the capthca now thats why they go to another level where some sites ask you to copy and paste some text out of a box they supply and then click enter

Mods have been great with me, allowing me to rename my account.

True, unfortunately the nature of software is that the more popular it gets, the more likely it is to attract a piracy element.
