    I really don't understand you!

Do all posties know who lives at every address on their round?

What attitude - I was only clarifying something you muddied.

The postie didn't ask me to confirm my reason for return, just posted it back to me. Stupidly useless action which only provoked a vent.

If the postie wants a reason they s/he should flipping well ask for it and make the actions clearer. I've never had an item returned before but perhaps it's because my usual postie is very good, very organised and I give him a christmas box each year??

Now I know that I have to write REFUSED on the item I will add that to my sticker.

Sheesssssssh kebab.. what a nasty place some people in some forums are!

Thanks to those who helped. As for the others... :(:(

well yes,a regular postie will know all the people on their round
    why wouldnt they?
as for delivering the item again, well whats the option?
they peeled the sticker off,so the obviously made a choice to o it
they can only deliver or condemn. thats the options
you seem to find an item of mail coming through your door a trauma.
I gave you clarification on a possible reason and how to avoid it in future.
given you have labels already printed,it seems this is an ongoing issue for you
as for the part in red. see how I helped you......

    * What's wrong with condemning it - I obviously didn't want it?

*No trauma at all - you're the one making it into a crisis, my original post say 'only a vent' along with 'moving along'. Can't see a trauma there. I didn't ask for help, advice, suggestions or comments - you choose to respond even though there wasn't a question.

*Nope, no pre printed labels so not a problem. Read my last post.

*No, you didn't help me at all. You only posted the information in response to someone else. It was in fact pmduke who told me to 'refuse' the item.

Once again I say, sheeesh kebab!

    Just a vent.

I recently received an unsolicited item from a company and so stuck a sticker on it saying 'return to sender' as I am registered with MPS and popped it back in the postbox.

Royal Mail sent it back to me next day (good service?) by dint of ripping open the plastic 'envelope' to see my address despite the return address being clearly displayed.

    :mad::mad::mad:

    Blooming cheek....

    Moving on now. :)

If you receive unsolicited goods, those goods immediately become your property - you are not obliged to return them (subject to a few limited exceptions).

Thanks for that, however the item was a sales catalogue so I didn't want to keep it.

Why on earth does the postie need to know?
Actually the sticker I print off says 'registered with MPS' but that's just a message for the company but I expect that the postie can read it too.

Two pronged attack, the postie can help you.

I thought of doing that but want the company to know who has sent it back so that they won't send me anymore junk! Have taped up the envelope, added more stickers and drawn arrows towards the return address.

I'm sure you think thats hilarious.

I'm a Hermes courier and had a "not at home customer" recently (2 cards left, final attempt)they left a note on their door stating dear xxxxx courier plz leave my parcel outside my door with an arrow pointing to the floor.
It is bad mannered, an insult is definitely intended, it doesn't bother most experienced couriers, seen many arrogant and rude customers over the years but those customers will not have any extra service.

Funny that just asked my postman what the rules are now, i tell him that someone who claims to be an ex postie on an internet forum site claims different, he asked what you did you type, so i showed him, RTS stating MPS is a valid reason.

I have to say Mupette, I would definitely listen to custardy after reading his posts over many years and ignore my postie.

That postie that sent it back to you, would have gone into work the day it got "returned" to the delivery office, to find that this item was more than likely put back in his delivery frame. Many of the posties who do relief rounds (cover for days off, holidays etc) are part timers who go in to their walks already thrown off. So the sticker was probably not even seen by him.

Saying your registered with MPS doesn't matter one iota to the postie, the company has paid RM to delivery to your address, that's what the postie is doing, end of. By all means return your items to them, but it's unlikely to get you taken off the said mailing lists. The best option is to write to the companies and ask to be removed from their mailing lists.

Writing refused on it is ideal, it will be returned to the sender, but as I said, it won't get you removed from the mailing list.

Yep you've guessed it, another ex postie here.
