pouring soda crystals down the plughole can help.

Don't do this. Soda crystals should always be added to water first. Never add water to soda crystals.

Follow the instructions on the can/bottle.

  • You can use your hand in place of a plunger - put the palm over the plughole making a seal with no air gaps, push down then up a few times, making a seal each time. If its working you get a sucking noise and water and crud will swell up into the sink then drain better. Mr M still worth doing afterwards

Once a week put a large mug of Soda Crystals into the sink plug hole and leave to dissolve slowly by adding some hot water. This will help dissolve grease and the build up of shampoos, soap etc to prevent blockages. Occasionally, use a mug of Bicarbonate of Soda, which will also help to keep the drain clear and will help deodorise the drain.

Soda crystals around 80p at home bargains or 90p most other shops like supermarkets

Our bath gets like that due to daughter's long hair despite the fact that I constantly fish it out and clean it. What does work is squeezing hair removing cream like Imaac down the plughole, leave it for a while then rinse away, the cream dissolves the hair.

Cant unscrew the trap as it's in a very small area.
Will be trying the soda crystals next. Can i just get them from the supermarket?
  • I use a knitting needle poked down the hole and swizzed around, and tweezers to pull out the accessible gunk through the holes! Hair gets down the plughole whether you wash it over the sink or not.

  • Forget crystals. Buy a decent plunger, not a £1 shop one. Partly fill your sink with hot water, add a bit of fairy liquid as a good de greaser. Cover the overflow hole on the sink with a cloth in one hand and slowly plunge the waist. The aim is to break up any debris build up. Do not try to unscrew the trap as this could lead to even more problems. You can break seals that you will not be able to reseal. Give the waste a good plunge and you should see a break up of waste in the water. Keep it topped up as helps seal waste and flushing.
    Good luck

Does your plug hole lift out? Ours just pulls out so you can clean any gunk that's been caught easy enough...if that doesn't do it, as everyone else says, the Mr Muscle stuff works really well and is much less messy...
  • Please always remember that any additives such as mr muscle can be harmful and be very careful when using anything stronger. I have seen how dangerous they can be.
