Want to leave Virgin, aggressive retention team :-(

I've decided I want to leave Virgin after 5 years but tried cancelling earlier but wasn't that easy. Woman I spoke to was seriously aggressive and I'm ashamed to say I ended up backing out.
At the moment I have the M tv package, phone but no broadband and seem to be paying quite a lot for very little. I want to change to sky but not sure how to go about it!
I've looked online at the package I want and website says they can install for example mid feb. If I cancel virgin it wont be until 3/4th March. Can I have Sky installed before Virgin services are cancelled? I really want out of Virgin, want Fx and Sky Atlantic but that doesn't seem available on virgin! I'm really stressing about having to ring back!!

Thanks for your reply! Vm does have fx but only on xl package and I begrudge paying that much extra for one channel!
I do need to "woman up" but I'm being seriously cowardly!Joined SW 24/02/2011 :j71lb/28.5lb-6, -2.5, -2, -1, -2 -, -2 sow, +3

No broadband at moment, I did have mobile dongle (cancelled now) but want wireless broadband at home now. Am planning on moving everything. Does that make a difference to being able to change?Joined SW 24/02/2011 :j71lb/28.5lb-6, -2.5, -2, -1, -2 -, -2 sow, +3

well the flip side for me is I lost ESPN moving to Sky
as it was included in my XL TV
of course I bained Atlantic and some other HD channels
plus i got rid of the audio sync problems that VM has with some audio set ups, but pretends isnt an issue0 -

It should make zero difference however check to see if your exchange is unbundled (LLU) or not as this can make a big difference to the cost for moving to Sky with broadband.
Sky Unlimited = LLU
Sky Connect = BT equipment
In some cases you might be better off sticking with VM for broadband and/or calls and Sky for their TV package.
If you go to http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search and enter the name of your town it should tell you on the right if Sky offers their own equipment.0 -
Call again and hopefully you will get a less aggressive salesperson. I cancelled Virgin a few months ago and the salesman did his best but I just ignored him (I know it's rude but sometimes you have to be) and kept repeating that I was ringing to cancel. Good luck!0

They do tend to take being dumped with the same level of tenacity that was last seen in something like Fatal Attraction - I'm still being bugged with "please come back, we're not Sky but we're cute and fluffy" type calls over a year and a half later... it very much resembles an ex-partner who can't take the fact they've been dumped at all.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

Did you get a letter telling you about a 50p rise in your monthly bill? If so, you are able to cancel your TV immediatley - if it is a combined package, you maybe able to leave both TV and phone - try calling them and saying your letter states you can cancel for free. I cancelled mine for free yesterday even though I have 6 months left on my contractTotal Wins 2011: Zilch

Call again and say you are moving to an area that does not have Virgin cable so you have to cancel.0
