Best 'low user' broadband

Hi All,
Trying to sort out a new broadband account for a relative. Most that I have looked at require you to sign up for line rental/tv and all sorts of stuff.
Requirements are:
*Broadband service only (BT Line). No tie ins to mobiles, TV or call plans, just basic broadband needed.
*Low monthly useage (<3GB). Account will only be used for email, web surfing and watching the odd youtube vid.
*Needs to be good value for money.
*Good customer service.
*Reliable.
Anyone got any recommendations? The user is currently with Newnet which has been OK until recently, but expensive.

Broadband is exchange-specific, so no 'national' recommendations can be made. Do an exchange search on www.samknows.com for your LLU options.
But the obvious non-LLU candidate is Plusnet Value at £6.49 (10GB cap)-however this assumes that the line is on a Market 3 exchange. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I've put a post above about talk talk.. good for surfing but not streaming/ downloading due to the bandwidth in the evening. They seem to cut it back at peak times. They are quite cheap though. We got the phone line in with the deal, but dont use it. I think this gets thrown in on most deals. I dont think you can exclude it for a better price. (I havnt looked at plus net, that said)...0

Chet the OP is asking for good customer service and reliability. Thats rules out TT.
Tried getting away from them, oh dear.0 -
I am changing from Orange to BT Basic for a landline as we are on benefits it will be just £14.40 a month a big saving. I think Plusnet is the cheapest broadband at the mo. There is however a £25 initial charge for the broadband.
I have heard somewhere that if you have a BT line already (which I will have in March after my contract with Orange finishes) then you just pay the £5 postage. Is this true?0 -
You already have a BT line-you just pay your line rental to Orange.
The router is free with a 12m contract, P&P is £4.99.
Plusnet Value is only £6.49pm if you are on a Market 2 or 3 exchange though-not on Market 1. Remember that broadband is exchange-specific.
Beware that if you go over your (minimal) call allowance, BT Basic is extremely expensive. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I took Plusnet connection, costs aprox £6 per month per 10GB with month by month contract.0

Thanks Macman.
Sarah do you only pay aprox £6 if you have a month by month contract not after three months £12.99 ?0 -
It's the same price of £6.49 on the '10 days notice' tariff, but you have to pay for the router-it's all clearly shown on the website.
This assumes you are on a Market 2 or 3 exchange, which you have not confirmed. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks macman, How do you find out if you are on a market 2 or 3 exchange?0
