These are very similar to the supermarket ones and are the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever made. You could also just swap the choc chips for rolos or smarties.

  • The Hairy Bikers reckon that using oil in place of some of the butter makes cookies really chewy. Their Super- Posh Chewy Cookies is my failsafe, the ingredients aren't exactly what you find in the supermarket but you can have what you like! I'll be doing Minstrels as I was given a huge box of OOD ones...

recommend the takeaway secret book by Kenny McGovern, there are very good recipes in there including cookies.
Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.

Made these at the weekend from the Good Food book I got for x-mas. Very nice. Still soft (chewy) on day 2 (yesterday). Last batch to be eaten tonight

so I've done the first batch from the recipe Josslette gave and they were amazing, just cooled out of the oven they were perfect (hard on the edge and soft on the inside, they have hardened over time but they still taste fantastic. it says makes 18 but I easily managed 24 very large cookies.

the chocolate chunk pecan cookies look great too so I'll definitely be trying them at some point.
  • Had this recipe for about 20 years! I haven't a sweet tooth any more so hardly ever make them, but they really are very good.
    Basic cookie dough
Preheat oven to 190c/Gas mark 5. Line two bakuing sheets with silicone baking parchment.

    4oz butter
    3oz soft light brown sugar
1 med. egg (size 3 lightly beaten
    7oz SR flour
    1/4 tsp baking powder
Plus other flavourings e.g; double choc = 1oz cocoa powder and 2oz plain chocolate, chopped up small.

Cream butter & sugar together until fluffy and pale. Add the egg little by little and beat well. Add the flour + baking powder + cocoa + chocolate pieces. You'll get a stiff but pliable dough. Put rounded teaspoonfuls of the dough onto the baking sheets, 9 on each, flatten the balls slightly. Bake for about 15-20 minutes. Will keep for up to 3 days in airtight tin, will freeze for 3 months.

That's the problem with recipes.... I'd only want about 1/year... but when you make things you get so much. That's 18-24 years worth of cookies in my world.

Glad you liked them :) The oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies on that site are also amazing.

I've tried those chocolate pecan ones aswell, they're very yummy!

Does anyone have an idiot-proof soft & chewy cookie recipe please?

PS. I'm sure there was a discussion only a few days ago where a group of you all agreed on one recipe. By the time I've bought my chocolate chips, the thread is lost!!
