Can vouch for the ones in the link by Lil_me. I changed the recipe slightly in that instead of using all caster sugar I substitute 1 1/2 cups for soft brown sugar when making the brownie mix.

I also add choc chips and 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence when making the cookie mix. The knack is definately in the cooking. I bake until the tops just have a "skin" if this makes sense. Leave them on tray for 10 mins to cool then transfer to wire tray to cool.........ok thats what you should do what I tend to do is [STRIKE]scoff[/STRIKE] do a taste test pretty much as soon as possible:D .

DH loves Millies cookies and he says these taste just like them.

This is the Nestle Toll House cookie recipe, widely agreed in America to be the best chocolate chip cookie recipe ever. If you slightly under-cook them, I can guarantee that they'll be better than any store-bought cookies!

Oh, and nuts are definitely optional.

Great thanks to you and everyone who's helped here. I'm still giggling at the fact this recipe tells you how to make it at high altitude.....I've never considered climbing mount everest but if I ever do I'll know how to bake cookies at the top! :rotfl:

It has a free recipe every week, telling you how to clone famous brands at home :j

    Hope this helps someone

I am a regular cookie baker and I agree with the previous posters that the only way to get them soft rather than crunchy is to undercook them. Trust us!! Take them out of the oven as soon as one of them starts to turn golden brown at one of the edges. You'll probably think they won't be cooked but just leave then to cool and you'll soon find you have lovely chewy cookies!
I used to cook cookies for somerfields its true about underbaking them. we would cook cookies on 155 c for 11 mins (From frozen) but residual heat from tray means that they carried on cooking for a while after coming out of oven and would be perfect
  • one simple tip... turn the oven temp down low. should be ok then :rotfl: :p
:j bad with names?? just call people "bollox", and you'll never get it wrong again :p

  • Can I just ask anyone who's used the Nestle Toll House recipe what type of chocolate chips they used? Is it just the wee bags in the baking section?

Thanks so much for the Quaker Oats one - YUM!!!!

Adding some custrad powder in along with the flour will make the cookies soft and chewy.

I just chop up bars of regular chocolate - I'm too cheap to buy the chocolate chips! :rotfl:
(Also, when it's been a bad day, I can have extra-large chips!)

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone has a tried and tested recipe for the cookies you buy at the supermarket?
(the ones with 5 in a bag and have Rolos or Smarties in them, they are soft in the middle and hard on the outside)

    much appreciated
