one question. Why didn't you watermark your pictures? you could have even done it in "microsoft paint".0

because Ive never had photos used by anyone else before and never encounted this before. I also didnt know about watermarking, but Ive learnt about it since this has happened.
I should have known people will try and cut corners - but lets face it how long does it take to take a photo down load it and put it in your listing - a minute max if on braodband - which I would think many people using ebay are.
they 2nd sellar has now added their own photos so it must have been sheer laziness. on their part.
My photos are normally taken on backgrounds they will stand out from others - i.e on mix of red/blue fabric, that way they stand out and are easily recognised or spotted. actually I would have thought detering people from using them as are so easily recognised.
to be honest the last think you think about is someone using your listing info. Ive on this listing had both my photo and description copied. Both were nothing special just eye catching and informative. Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T0 -
Strictly speaking, the use of stock photos from manufactures site is not allowed.
As for background on your pic, thats make no difference, only takes a minute or two to alter the background, depending on what the item is. Much harder to remove a watermark, much more cloning work involved.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -

Just be aware though that you will get a few people who will want to know "What's that text on your picture? Is it on the actual product?"

I think I agree nightswimmer I always feel what is the text and sometimes it covered the item if taken too close. - I use an individual background to stand out.
Even thought the sellar today resized my picture (enlarged it ) I could still see it was mine. He was very good, removed it right away and even sent me an apology - now although what he did was wrong in the first place I cannot fault how he dealt with my contacting him - he was very pleasant and acted as soon as I mentioned it. Not like the 1st sellar he said "ive not used your description" and promptly changed it for someone elses. Who also reported him.
using stock photos from a manufacturers site - I didnt know this was wrong - as the 1st person who took my photo has done just this. Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T0 -

Eeek, I didn't mean to imply people shouldn't use watermarks.
Especially as I use them on *all* my photo's. IMHO It's the only way to stop people from stealing your photos, as backgrounds (however individual) can easily be removed.using stock photos from a manufacturers site - I didnt know this was wrong - as the 1st person who took my photo has done just this.
It just depends. Some manufacturer's will have photos of their products available that are copyright free, some turn a blind eye, where as others take a dim view of people using their photos.0 -
Hi can I suggest that on all new listings that you post you add your ebay name, like a watermark, across the photo (photoshop it) and this will act as a deterant. All the best.Thank you to everyone who has helped me MoneySave0

just in case anyone is interested in this information
as far as I know, under this country's IP law, copyrights applyautomatically, with or without the relevant notice on the image, as long as you can proof you own the image. 0
