Can you double-click on the network you created in the "Available wireless networks" list and connect to it? It will probably ask you to type in the 13 character key you created.

showing the newly created wireless network and your computer connected to it, but as a transmitter, as a HotSpot.

    Found this from another page:
    Configure the iPhone

On the iPhone select the network "MyNet" which should appear on the list of available wireless networks. Display the properties page using right arrow button on the right side of the network name. On your laptop, the Available Wireless Connections should show the "MyNet" state change to "Connected".

On the iPhone, select the DHCP tab and press the "Renew Lease" button near the bottom of the page. After a few seconds, you will see all the IP information.

At this point you should be connected!

In your case "NyNet" will be the name of the network you created

Ok so I basically did that - the difference I had was:

When I pressed the blue right arrow button next to the network it didn't say connected straight away - so I toggled "Auto-Join" to "On" and then it said connected on the PC.

Then I renewed the lease but no IP information has appeared and my iPhone is still trying to use the mobile internet / is not showing as connected to the Wifi

Haven't got an iPhone I'm afraid so I can't offer much in the way of troubleshooting that :(
