Using USB WiFi Dongle as Access Point for iPhone?

I have a PC with a wired ethernet cable internet connection and a USB wifi dongle which i know is usually used to receive internet from a wireless router.
I would like to use it to transmit the internet connection from the wired internet PC - wirelessly so that I can use my iPhone.
I have seen a product out there that can do this but wondering if I can make my existing wireless adapter do this??

I take it I download it and it will use my wifi dongle to create a hotspot that my iphone can log on to?0 -

You can play around bridging your connections in windows, setting your wireless adaptor up as an access point, troubleshooting, etc. But that app seems to do it all for you. The reviews seem to be alright too.0 -

Not necessarily. Windows is fussy about adapters it will allow you to do this. And since Connectify went to full release from Beta it no longer so friendly if you don't pay for a twelve month licence (ex Connectify user now). There are other programs which are free and sometimes work better. Personally I now use Virtual Router which is free and works better for my particular PC's Wi-Fi.0 -
Yeh ive just tried using it and I think you need to pay for the subscription to be able to use a wifi usb dongle... what are the free programs?0

Lots of free programs search W7 Wi-Fi hotspot or see my updated post above.0

Personally I'd just get a wireless router - a lot less hassle in the long run. If you don't want to spend money you could ask around to see if anyone you know has a spare one - lots of people get free upgrades and have the old one lying around. Don't get one with a built in ADSL modem though.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
Virtual router looks good but I need one that works with Windows XP?0
