Maybe you could confirm what i have been able to find out.
Both meter time-switch codes 500 and 511 are "related" metering system common to all domestic use, but the 511 is Distribution Network Operaters specific?
The 01 is normal Domestic Unrestricted & 02 is Domestic Economy 7
The MPAN is allocated by the area distribution network opperator, in my case Northern Power Grid
I have been onto Northern Power site and found that my address appears twice because of the two MPAN's. You say that both meters can be under the same MPAN, would this make a difference?
Now spoken to someone at Scottish Power that knows what they are talking about; What i thought was an economy 7 meter is in fact an economy 10 which is the problem as only 3 suppliers can supply to this tarriff.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Hi I too am having problems regarding 'Related meters'
My property is split into two. Commercial ground floor shop and flat above. Same address but with two seperate meters and supply numbers. Not sure if Mpans are the same but pretty sure they are not. We get billed seperately with 2 seperate accounts with British Gas.
Last year when I tried to change my supply to another company for my business I was told that British Gas would not authorise the switch as my meters at the property were 'Related' and that untill BG unrelate them I cannot make the switch.
When I spoke to BG about this on numerous occasions some representatives deny that the meters were 'Related' and other's say that it cost alot of money and would take months to complete. At the time I didnt have time to wait as my contract with BG was coming to an end.
They made it extremely difficult for me to get to a conclusion and did not provide me with any solid advice on how to unrelate or whether I can or not.
The supplier I was trying to switch to assured me that BG can unrelate them and its a simple 'Admin' procedure which requires them to update the electricity board system.
I was bounced back anf forth between BG and new supplier and by the end of it all I had no choice but to renew my contract with BG!!
I will be coming to the end of contract with BG next year but allowing plenty of time to resolve this issue before then.
Any advice and help will be GREATLY appreciated!!0 -

They can't be related in the scenario you describe.
To unrelated them by making them both "primary" MPAN's, all they have to do is look up your meters data combinations in industry Market Domain Data (MDD) and send a data flow to the distributor on each updating it. The distributor then checks this is valid which is an automated process as it conforms to the range of data in MDD and the dates of certain data items to ensure the update is compliant. This process takes no longer than 5 working days but its likely to be 1.
Another consideration is whether the new supplier is even correct. To check this, get your bills and check if the Meter Time switch Class (MTC) is in the range 500-799. This is the associated (related) range. If outside of this, they are incorrect. The MTC is in the supply number with your MPAN on your bills.
If you don't know how to find the MTC, use this link to show you.
If your bills are fine, another possibility is that the distributor has them as associated but the suppliers doesn't. This changes the process slightly but just means they may need to issue the updates using a more manual system since their own system is correct.
Either way, the supplier shouldn't need more than say, 20-30 minutes to do all this. Its very easy but its not a call centre task so most of your wait would be in handover time to back office experts. Raise a complaint because you have been messed around to get it done quicker.
Since I can't see your meter records, there is a more complex problem that could exist if the business and residential property share an associated meter due to incorrect data combinations. This can take longer as its needs investigation and changes in metering records but its rarer so try the above first and see what happens.
Re-post if you need more help. The last paragraph is unlikely so I won't go into it unless you post more info that could point to it.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
