i've accepted that this should have happened and it didn't in mitigation though, we asked him to source a cheap suite for us, which he did. There was a clear aknowledgement that we were using him to cut costs so it didn't seem necessary to go over everything.
he did have to board the walls, plasterboard was far too damaged from removal of tiles, tiles were removed by me.I think your mates bill is far too high for his labour. did he really have to board all the walls, why didnt he just skim them?
Materials seem ok ish, but i bet he has marked up on the costs and has made profit on that too.
as stated above, he did sort us out with a suite, we went to a local showroom that he had a relationship with and basically got everything tradeIf its a good job its a fair price, i've seen some shocking jobs comming in at double what you have spent.
If the work is done direct, then that is cutting out a middleman.
As for doing houses up and spending money on bathrooms and kitchens before you are about to move it is really a waste of time unless its what the buyers want and its very hard to appeal to everyone.
it is a good job, he is skilled and meticulous in his work, the reason we're so shocked is we gave him a lot of leeway in doing the job. He had other jobs on at the same time, we were 10 days without a shower, one night without a toilet my wife had to stay at a friends and six weeks sitting on a unsecured toilet. We allowed him all this because we thought he was prioritising his "real customers" we accepted we went to the bottom of the pile because we were "getting a good deal"
I think what annoys/upsets the most is we afforded him all the luxury as he was doing us a favour when in actual fact we've been charged like any other customer, but treated like he was doing us a favour
as for selling the house, we didn't do it for that, the prevoius bathroom was horrible, old and mouldy, it needed changed. If it helps to sell it down the line, brilliant, but that wasn't the main reason for the job.Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face - Mike Tyson0 -
The problem with involving friends is that it will alway be uncomfortable discussing nitty gritty subjects. All you did was allow him to squeeze another job into his working month that he wouldn't normally have been able to manage. It appears that he hasn't really helped you out more that he helped himself.
Think of I this way, you have got what you wanted (new bathroom) for not as much as it could have been but more importantly you have learned an important lesson in quoting for jobs and asking mates to do you favours. Just be happy that you didn't have to spend £30k on an extension or something.Lightbulb Moment 17/09/20060
