bathroom bill

The reality is that is that the average bathroom costs are as I;'ve previously stated. And sites like that or whatever.........Grrrr - waste of time, money and energy.
OP wanted a cheap bathroom, though - not an average one.
Have to say, I've used a couple of those sites before and never had an issue.
Almost along these lines, when I moved into my flat (new build) I asked the builders whether they'd put a shower in the "family bathroom" in case we had guest stay. They said they could, but for shower, screen, tiling to the ceiling and labour it would be £1400. I bought the shower online for £130, got a screen for £70 (although I actually paid in nectar points), a bunch of tiles, grout etc on offer for about £100 then paid one of these guys around £100 to install - took him a couple of hours to do the tiling and fit the screen and shower. He got some extra cash on the way home from work, I saved over £1k, everyone's a winner...0 -
Or to look at it another way, how long would it take an average person to earn that money?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Yes but thats not the point. I only quoted average price as a reference point. Did their mate understand it was to be cheap? I walk away from the I've only got x for my budget although I know I need y. It only costs me money in the long term.Idiophreak wrote: »OP wanted a cheap bathroom, though - not an average one.
Thats your lucjk then. They rip tradesmen off, unscrupulous people use them as a means to get in with customers they wouldn't have a chance of getting to otherwise, put in lkow prices then hike them after, they are full of timewasters and tyre kickers who want a price for X that they never had any intention of proceeding with and the feedback/review system is corrupt and bankrupt. But hey - thats just my opinion. Others are entitled to their own.Have to say, I've used a couple of those sites before and never had an issue.
Which went in his back pocket, he did not pay tax on it nor did his employer get his overheads covered from the biz. Having said that I find £1400 rather too much for that scope of work. £600 or so is nearer the mark.Almost along these lines, when I moved into my flat (new build) I asked the builders whether they'd put a shower in the "family bathroom" in case we had guest stay. I had a quote for my bathroom that was bath, sink and toilet fitted with tiling 600 pound, he said it would take a week and that was me providing materials.
I havent had it done yet but the same person fitted my laminate floor which took him a day and he charged 120 pound, he finished early and tried to give me 20 pound back, but i said no thats the price we agreed and that was the price i was happy to pay.
Why people dont agree prices before amazes me, im currently planning on having a very big job done, but i will want a breakdown of costs for everything thats been done, especially before i let anyone do any work, the one thing for sure is you wont use this guy again.0 -
tax, since when as that been a major concern most of our taxes go to pay for people who claim benefits for doing nothing.0

perhaps since there is a moral and legal obligation to pay them?new_home_owner wrote: »tax, since when as that been a major concern
I'm more concerned about the £50,000,000 each and every DAY that goes to bloody Brussels TBH.most of our taxes go to pay for people who claim benefits for doing nothing.

I think your mates bill is far too high for his labour. did he really have to board all the walls, why didnt he just skim them?
Materials seem ok ish, but i bet he has marked up on the costs and has made profit on that too.
A few years ago my husband gave his pal casual drivng work, as mates, he was paid cash £100 for a day plus a good bottle of malt, mate was quite happy.
BUT his wife got on the ph and said if you want to keep his friendship you will rethink and pay him more money!! she moaned on and - end of friendship and we havent spoken to them in 13 years !Beware mates and jobs!!
confront him nicely if you feel able..0 -

If its a good job its a fair price, i've seen some shocking jobs comming in at double what you have spent.
If the work is done direct, then that is cutting out a middleman.
As for doing houses up and spending money on bathrooms and kitchens before you are about to move it is really a waste of time unless its what the buyers want and its very hard to appeal to everyone.0
