    25p per mile?????

That would give me a £73 profit !!

I don't know where that is, but it certainly isn't Liverpool!

Thankfully unlike you, most people are not interested in claiming transport costs for the benefit of making a profit.

Unfair post without thought . Poster was saying 25p per mile would be more that he would actually spend on his trip. But on the other hand there is more to ££ than petrol when using your car . Tyres, wear n tear (brakes exhust etc) I read about how much per mile it costs to run a car just cant remember it. But more than 25p pm
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world

    Thankyou.

Yes the actual cost of fuel for me would be approx 14.85p per mile - that would just about cover the cost. Anymore than that would be a profit.

Yes I do take your point about the running costs which currently stands at about 54p per mile on average, but that does cover insurance, tax etc etc etc.

However I was only making the point on how it affects me. I only pay for the fuel, the rest, overheads, servicing are picked up by the leasing company. The payment each month is funded by the government via my DLA entitlement.

You have to travel all the way to Kent to get to Hospital - dont they have them in Liverpool?

The hospital (or PCT) could very well challenge your use of the car if they believe that you could have used public transpport, in which case, they might decide to reimburse you at the lowest public transport rate rather than the fuel cost.

You can also be reported for Fraud if you use the scheme fraudulently (ie, get your four friends in the car and then share the cost). Happy to share the guidance with you if you are that interested.

No I live in Kent, on the coast and travel to Liverpool University Hospital in Prescott Street every 6/8 weeks for OP appointments.

Liverpool Hospital is the UK's one and only specialised unit for one of my conditions.

Yes I could have travelled by train or bus, but the journey would be difficult for me. They have always paid the mileage.
They don't say that I should travel on National Express @ £10 a go.
And I do not fiddle the system, but obviously I know people that regulary do so.

Until now, it wasn't something much challenged, because the costs of processing these applications were not deemed cost effective... however, we are now in a time where every potential savings are being considered so the applications of the rules are being tightened. A lot of patients who were receiving patient transport (not under the low cost/benefit scheme) will see themselves turned down, because of the rules of patient transport are that if you can get into a taxi, you can use public transport and therefore do not need an ambulance.

The scheme to reinburse patients on benefits is also starting to be tightened in some places. We are starting to look at the forms a lot closer, requesting evidence of appointment, of clinical limitations, not reimbursing for escorts unless clinically required/children, and denying reimbursement of taxi costs if the person is in receipt of HMR of DLA.

In your situation, I would be asking if you are in receipt of motability, and if so, I would only reimburse the cost of petrol, not the mileage.

No wonder the NHS is in such a state!
