Bf won't let me get a second cat, especially after this. It was hard enough convincing me to get one never mind two lol. I did bring two home initially but one was for my brother.

When it is on the laundry I just rewash them. When he has done it on the floor I was using a mix of hot water and bicarb of soda. Have used dettol also to wipe surfaces.

You should be careful using Dettol around cats, and any other disinfectant which turns cloudy in water. This is because they contain phenols which are toxic to cats, so if they walk on a surface wet with the disinfectant and then lick their paws, there is the risk of illness and even death. Unlikely as a one-off, but repeated exposure could be a problem.

I use a disinfectant called "Safe4" which is safe for cat use, but not sure how widely available it is (I get it at cat shows). Zoflora is OK as long as the dilution amount is correct.

But in terms of where the cat pees, the best solution to get rid of smells is bio washing liquid/powder solution in my experience.

It is the dettol spray I use the anti bac one. If I am washing floors I use a floor cleaner ( just for general use) but it cat wees I do hot water and bicarb of soda.

Will grab some bio powder for any future incidents. Hopefully there aren't any.

I too think it sounds like stress, he has quite a few things going on that could cause this such as moving home to come live with you, not being allowed out if he previously had been; being neutered, being shouted at for peeing where he shouldn't; being alone etc

You could try Feliway it's supposed to be excellent; getting a second kitten so he has company, getting a second litter tray - maybe a covered one in a private place - and also enrichment with new toys, cat grass, catnip etc. He could be doing it for attention, when you shout it's still attention even if negative so rewards him.

How long do you spend playing with & grooming him? Has it been a problem since your relatives were in hospital? Could he be hating the hospital smell on you?

I suspected my kitten had whizzed in the corner of the carpet right in front, of the front door, It didn't have a urine smell but it was wet there and the other cats were sniffing around it curiously. I washed it with bio powder and water.

I caught him doing it there yesterday + a poo on my contact lens box which happened to be in the way :(

I rewashed the area, also with vinegar and baking powder, kept the area damp with a towel over it, I put him to the area to smell, he make a funny noise, then proceeded to head to the opposite corner and squat to pee!! I threw him on the litterbox in time, and then washed that area too.

He uses the litterbox fine, if I hadn't seen him doing it I wouldnt of known as he the evidence of his toilets are in the 1 of 3 litterboxes for me to see.

I've ordered a pet odour and eneyzme remove from Amazon, also a bottle of orange essential oil to sprinkle there.

Is there any other way to deter him? I cannot live/cope with a cat whizzing in corners of my carpet. I've heard about moving a litterbox there, which would be fine whilst I'm in the house but as soon as I leave, it would get pushed back from the door.

Black pepper? Tin foil? He knows where the litterboxes are, and uses them frequently, so I havent a clue why he is doing it, perhaps he was allowed to pee in corners from the previous house? Although I can't recall them having carpet (laminate)

If anything I thought it would be my female or male cat pee'ing somewhere in protest to him, but nope, it's most deffo him (as its tiny wet wetches, if the other cats had done it originally, it would of been a bigger area)
  • I've had several cats who have urinated in various spots. It is really important to get rid of the smell as they'll just do it again. There is a spray called "Keep Off" you can buy in Pets at Home and it keeps them away from an area although it doesn't smell that bad to humans. I would spray that into the corners until they learn.

I got the Keep off spray today so have put that in the corners, he has gone upstair so hopefully he is just sleeping and not peeing somewhere!

Think I will get the feliway, can anyone point me to the cheapest place or even if there are deals if you buy 2 as my mum needs one, another story but my cat at mums is getting stressed because her daughter has reappeared in the house (cats daughter) before it was occasionally but she seems to have fully moved in now. So thinking feliway may help them get one.

Feliway plug in is more constant than the spray - you can turn it off when you are lavishing him with attention & on when you are at work/out etc. There are cheaper stockists than PAH such as [FONT=&quot]http://www.animeddirect.co.uk/ - I have now used them & delivery is fast.
