You will pay through the nose for a diffuser from PAH, they are so over priced.

I would be inclined to try more enrichment therapy, you will find plenty of ideas on the net but they can include new toys and putting toys on a rota so he doesnt get bored of them. A climbing frame? Perhaps a log stump from the park so he can scratch it and smell it, some leaves from the garden he can roll in ... Anything that will enrich his life and of course you will need to interact with him and play with him more (I know how easy it is to just assume they are ok)
Doy ou have the option of a cat aviary? perhaps something designed so you can have a window wide open and he cat sit on the windowsill and get some fresh air? Or ideally an aviary so he can go outside but be secured?

I've had the cat since October, he has been doing it since about a month after but not as often. He was neutered last week so don't know if that has stressed him out. I am not in as much as I used to be but that is unavoidable as both my granda and my newborn nephew are in hospital so I am up there almost every night.

He also has a scab on his neck atm where the fur has gone which was an allergic reaction to the anaesthetic.

Poor you, and poor Puss. I would say this is one mega-stressed Kitty, in the space of 3 or 4 months he has had a new owner, a new home, had hit bits whipped off  and his owner (through no fault of your own but he doesnt understand this) is now spending less and less time with him.
I would say he definitely needs more stimulation and attention and I know how tiring it is being out all those long hours, the last thing you need is Kitty issues when you get back, but he's really crying out for your attention :( Its a bit like a toddler throwing a tantrum, any attention they get is better than none, and they learn that bad/inappropriate behaviour elicits attention. At 7 months he really is just a baby, who needs play and cuddles. I hope you manage to juggle things so you can enjoy your little fuzzball ;)
Don't put it DOWN, put it AWAY! ;)

  • Hi Con1888, I agree with Ant, your cat is stressed and very unhappy. He is only 7 months old, he is practically still a kitten, they need lots of interaction. One of my cats died when she was 19 1/2 and she still wanted to play until she was about 19.

Although he is an indoor cat, he may still be able to see other cats through door panels and windows, and that does tend to freak cats out, especially if his litter tray and food bowls are in view of other cats.

Have you thought of having another cat of similar age as company? I have always had at least 2 cats and their interaction and playing together is wonderful. He would then not have to rely on you to play with him. I can highly recommend books by Vicky Halls (a "cat counsellor"), which you can borrow from your local library, and she gives lots of tips on how to reduce stress.

I agree, another litter tray in a totally different location would also help (and try a different type of litter) so he isn't caught short if he can't get to his usual litter tray. None of my cats would use the paper pellet type of litter and rather squat outside the tray!

Also, try and give him a few more toys but don't leave them all out; change them regularly so that he has to find them; it makes his life more interesting. Another suggestion, hide a few biscuits in perhaps an empty toilet roll in different locations, so he can "hunt". These are all suggestions from the Vicky Hall books.

Good luck and let us know how you get on. You have my sympathy - I had a female cat that starting spraying when we moved house when she was about 3 and sprayed everywhere including the headboard while we were asleep in bed! According to the vet it was purely due to the stress of moving and having to establish another territory.
  • Sorry, Ant & Catmum beat me to it with their suggestions - I was interrupted by a phone call before I was able to post my reply!

I let him out in the garden once a day, he doesn't run away far as I sit there with him and do it before he gets fed so that he always comes back in. Next door keeps ferrets so he is always over looking at them ( he can't get in, cage is well secured). His tunnel is his favourite so can see if I can pick up a few similar things, it was from asda and pretty cheap. He has a scratching tower but he doesn't really go near it.

Hopefully soon my family members can leave hospital which means I will be at home a lot more for him. My partner is in during the day but he is in bed all day as he works nightshift.

I'm not sure wether to phone the vet again, don't want to seem as if I am pestering them. When he got neutered she said he was fine so I assumed it wasn't because of an infection and he doesn't have problems using his litter like my mums cat did when she had a UTI.

Seems to me he's attracted to something in your laundry.

He piddled onto newly washed clothes, the ironing, bedding. Do you see a pattern emerging?

I'd put a freshly laundered towel on the kitchen floor just to see if he piddles on it. If he does I'd change my washing powder and fabric conditioner.
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!
  • it may calm down when he setlles a bit, lets face it hes just had his nuts chopped off.
my female cat is the same.....no reason, she just has a fetish for sneaking onto your bed and then doing a widdle:(

Never thought about it but yes, the laundry seems his favourite to pee on. Now we have a problem, I can't change what we use as I can only use Fairy or my skin breaks out. I use Lenor fabric softener so I might cut that out and see if it's maybe that, I can use comfort. The actual powder though I am restricted to fairy so hope it isn't that that he doesnt like !!

What are you cleaning it with?

Ammonia based products will just attract him again and again because he smells that's where he did it before (ammonia is found in urine).

Try and clean it with something else not ammonia based?

Mine has always always always done this - clothes or plastic carriers left on floors are fair targets. She ain't stressed, she ain't unhappy - she's just always done it. We just make sure we don't leave anything that we know will be a target on the floor, and that anywhere she's gone is cleaned with something that will break down the pee smell (so bio washing powder or specific cat-pee smell remover).

For someone like me who is terrible for dumping washing on the floor rather than putting it away it's a fair motivator!
