I think I might kill my cat

Not actually but he is driving me insane.

At least once a week he pees somewhere he shouldn't. He has been to the vets so he has no infection or anything. His favourite place seems to be in bags or on piles of ( usually clean ) clothes.

Last week he climbed into the washing machine and done it on clean clothes.

He done it last night as I was in my bed so had to get up, remove the clothes, put a washing on and clean the floor - not what I want at 1am!! I locked him in the kitchen overnight, he usually gets free roam but I was really annoyed with him.

Really at my wits end. His litter is clean so it isn't that.

Any advice??

Put the clothes away and don't leave them lying about

Keep door to washing machine shut at all times, unless you there putting clothes in or taking them out

I was taking the clothes out, was in the middle of hanging them up.

The other clothes he peed on were my ironing pile which I was ironing at the time. We do keep cupboards shut now as he tries to climb into them.

I wish I was an animal psychologist to get to the root of WHY he does it. It seems he is doing it to be bad. :|

It sounds like he is a very unhappy cat and stressed. Something is causing this ...

How long has he been doing this? Can you think of something that changed at home about the same time? An unpleasent change is usually the starter for these things and then they spiral to become a 'routine thing to do'

Perhaps you have moved his litter tray? Changed his litter? New partner? New anything? New neighbours with a bully cat? New cat food? ....

I've had the cat since October, he has been doing it since about a month after but not as often. He was neutered last week so don't know if that has stressed him out. I am not in as much as I used to be but that is unavoidable as both my granda and my newborn nephew are in hospital so I am up there almost every night.

He also has a scab on his neck atm where the fur has gone which was an allergic reaction to the anaesthetic.

I agree with Ant. Try and figure out what the trigger was if you can, and work back from there.

I felt really bad keeping him locked in the kitchen last night but it looks like I am going to have to do this over the next few days when I am out. I'm not getting in til about 8.30pm after leaving at 7.30am to go to work and I am emotionally and physically exhausted when I get home so the last thing I want to deal with is cat wee. :(

You might want to discuss with your vet but it sounds like its more a psycological issue than a health issue.

Im no expert but it may be because of the lack of time you are spending with him. Perhaps your reaction when he does pee gives him more attention (regardless of if its bad attention its still attention) than any other time and he is associating this behaviour with getting 'attention'?

You will obviously need to start changing your habits and avoiding the pile of clothes ... anything that triggers his behaviour!

I would also be inclinded to try a 2nd cat litter tray and a different cat litter. You will be amazed how many cats are fussy over the cat litter they tread on.
You can also try a Feliway plug in diffuser which will help calm him. I found the best price from fleabay.

When you are at home you need to spend more time playing with him rather than taking for granted that just by being there you are keeping him company (I hope that doesnt sound rude, its not meant to be :o)

Does he go outside? How old is he and what food does he eat?

    Anthony.

No, we live right on a road and there are loads of cats around so I don't let him out. When I was younger 2 of my cats were killed by cars.

    Anthony.

Can I get the feliway at pets at home, how much are they roughly? Will try one of them. I maybe should interact more, as he is not as needy as he was when he was a young kitten I tend to leave him to his own devices, he usually plays with his popup play tunnel and seems to keep himself amused with that. He is about 7months old and he eats a mixture of dry and wet food. Dry mainly and I usually give him 1 sachet of wet a day, usually just whiskas or asda tiger.
