Bunkbeds are cool, I shared one with my sister until I was 13, I'm not damaged, except from the time she wet the bed and it dribbled down onto me !

Unless I'm missing something, there is a few people making personal comments and sniping on this thread and they are the ones who are moaning about it!!

Only one post was OTT and has now been deleted, and that was written by the OP, not any of the posters being attacked on here.

There has been some fabulous ideas on here and it may help other families in the future, so please don't ruin the thread by attacking those who've come up with an idea you don't like.

A single bed may not be for any of you, but it may well work great for others.

    Ewww!

My boys have bunk beds at the in-laws and there's a plastic sheet on top bunk just in case :rotfl:

I have never forgotten my sister having a mard about whose turn it was for the top bunk - she kicked between the slats so I fell out of top bunk and landed with my neck on the ladder  I was only winded but my Dad was yelling that I wasn't breathing, and she'd killed me :rotfl:

I read through and see the reasons you feel this would not be an option is you can't sleep with your partner and you may not fit into a single bed?

I don't mean to cause any insult by this, but...Does your partner live with you? If not, then I personally don't feel that it would be a fair reason for your two boys to have a small room, just so you're partner can sleep in the same bed when he is there. I just feel that your children should come first, before anything else.

And yes, maybe you will have someone else (your partner) living with you in the future, but you live in a council property...so I think before considering moving someone in, you'd need to look at ways to rent privately for a bigger property, if your partner is working and chipping in.

Council housing is there for those most in need, your lifestyle choices while still on low income and reliant on their help isn't their responsibility and I don't see why they should have to accommodate that.

As you mentioned, you've wanted to move back for a long time. It sounds like a nice property. I'd seriously consider it. If not, you'll have to wait a little longer for your 'ideal' property.

    No, it's not.

I don't know why so many people assume this is the truth, because it's not.

Next year, we're getting a sofa bed for the lounge, so me and my husband will be sleeping in there.
word of warning get the most expensive sofa bed you can afford because if you don't you will regret it.

My sis and bil gave up their bedroom for their 3 youngest girls and now sleep in the sittingroom. They bought a sofa bed that was described as being for general use and it's is so uncomfortable they had to stop using it and now have a blow up airbed instead.

We will do, that's why it'll have to wait till next year.

I don't even know where would be a good place to get one! Have seen some lovely ones in Next, but don't know how good they are (was going to get on in the Jan sale next year you see as they go to half price).

Failing that, we can always kip on the floor :D

Ikea used to do them and they look pretty sturdy. Might be worth looking there too.

Depending on the layout and the budget available you could consider a wall bed for the living room. My sister and I had single ones because our rooms were so small (7x7 and 10x4.5). The advantage is that you can have a proper mattress with these which is a major consideration if you already suffer from sciatica!
