There is no way I would be sleeping in a single bed either!

The OP isn’t going to be single forever, what happens if she gets a BF who would like to stay over? “Sorry you can’t, we both won’t fit in my single bed?” No thanks. And she won’t be able to spend the night at her potential new fellas a lot, as she will have the kids to consider.

The only people I know who sleep in single beds are children, or sad cases who have never bothered to move out of the same room in their parents houses that they have slept in since they were 3!

OP, as someone already said, you can get “small” doubles” or ¾ sized beds, that are 6 inches narrower than regular doubles. They might be a slight squeeze to have 2 people sleep in them, but they are manageable and a lot better than a single.
  • A kid's single bed (which can be shorter as well) just isn't designed for a fully grown man/teenager to either fit into or for them to sleep in without it collapsing.

And the rows! Oh, God, the rows!
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

you will manage! My 2 are in the smaller room in the house, a 18 yr old girl and a 10 year old boy. The main reason is because there is zero storage in this house so my bedroom is used to store a lot of things. I doubt the kids would be happy with having the Christmas tree, all the bedding, the hoover (got one for upstairs as well as downstairs as I can't carry anything heavy up the stairs) and anything else that needs to be stored away in their bedroom.

The situation isn't ideal but we manage. If dd wants a bit of quiet space and ds is in their room she simply goes into my room as I only use it for sleeping.....oh and storage lol

BTW I couldn't sleep in a single bed either and I've got NO intention of ever being in a relationship again lol I sometimes have to sleep in a single bed when I stop at my sisters, well I say I sleep I toss and turn all night and get up in pain the next day.

Could you use the small bedroom as the living room, then have two big bedrooms?

After all, how much really needs to fit in a living room permanently, just a sofa and a telly really.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • Thanks again peeps.
I think (using the measurements I posted earlier) I will be able to fit my double bed in the small room, just. so that is good enough for me, my kids can have the big room, I can keep my double bed and ONW can phone Social services and let them know that I am putting my kids needs before mine! :rotfl:

Ames no, I have sofas, TV and Table and chairs, all be it small ones, plus the kitchen and living room are open plan ish.

My husband can't sleep in a single bed - something to do with his bad back. He is very tall too, he sleeps sort of sideways curled up ... all I know is I don't get much of our double!

Jojo I didn't think of the rows, hmm ... also the top bunk wouldn't suit a tall, heavy child or adult. OP's children are quite little at the moment, but yes I suppose this needs to work long term. I was still sleeping in top bunk (of a high sleeper, I didn't share with my sister past the age of 14, we'd have killed each other) when I was 21, but I'm not as tall as OP's boys will be.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Dh and i both slept ina single for a while, it was lovely and snuggly. :). I have also opted for singles on other occasions....university flat share for example. Never held me back, having a single bed, and so much easier to make!

My ideal size of bed is a small double...but as we get more pets who climb in or opn the bed the beds we choose get bigger each time.

Fwiw, op is free to make her own choice of course but i too would take a small doule in the smallest room.

Its interesting how we have all viewed it thugh, some opne saying all the sitting room needs is the tv and sofa, where as for me, all the bedroom needs ios the bed and my sitting room works hard as a relaxing space, work space and entertaining space.

    Hi.
I havent read the other responses, so not sure what everyone elses opinions are, but i downsized massively last year.
My kids used to share a HUGE bedroom that was half of the top floor of our old house, so it was never an issue.
Now we have moved, they share a TINY room, just space for their beds, a toy unit and a little floor space.
BUT its totally worth it as my gas, electric and water bills have reduced MASSIVELY! its cheaper to carpet, paint, decorate, keep on top of, clean etc just because its so much smaller!
  • On the single bed issue, I am a big girl too, and every time I stay at my mums I always nearly fall out the bed turning over!
And I need to stretch out especially when my sciatica is bad, sod sleeping in a single every night!

LOSTINRATES I totally agree, I spend all evening in my living room then go to bed, swich the light off and listen to the radio while playing my little card game for half hour on me phone then I go to sleep, I don't actually NEED anything in my room other than a bed and a plug socket!

I wont sleep in anything less than a King Sized these days. If I ever get a man, we'll have to change it for a superking or he can sleep on the floor.

I love my space, but actually I bought it for morning cuddles so the 4 littlies and I can all fit in at the same time - there just wasn't enough space in the old double!
