  • Willowbee, I still feel overwhelmed when I drag all my make up stash out and lay it out on the bed. There's a lifetimes supply of eyeshadow and lipgloss in there! Now you have scared yourself with the sheer size of your stash it's a great incentive to get using things and not buying anything to add to the stash. I think it is how we all start on this challenge!

I have a few ins to 'fess up to. I placed my Green People order using the groupon voucher code so I spent £14.65 altogether.

50ml SPF25 sun lotion - I won't count this as an in because I do need to buy new sun lotion this year.
Full size Cover and Clear spot cream
    Full size Soft Lips balm
    Trial size Gentle Cleanse
    Trial size Fruitful Nights moisturiser
    Trial size SPF15 day moisturiser

I haven't tried anything from this brand before and am looking forward to using them.

No UU so far in February, I had better get a big rush of them at the end of the month!
No more buying unnecessary toiletries 2018
    35 UU / 13 unnecessary ins

Uh-oh - feeling sorry for myself after not getting job I had interview for last week (feedback that I was "delightful" but "not ambitious enough" -)

I wouldn't worry about that...I've been told (indirectly) through agencies that I have been 'too ambitious', so I've decided that you can't win! (I also went for a job somewhere that a person I know works, and during chit-chat after the interview when it became apparent that I knew her, he told her that I was 'too posh' (!) I got a nice letter telling me how the number of candidates had far exceeded the number of positions, though...
Also bought durex... does that count? It was from Boots and I have a glow after using!!

So they've got a new brand of fake tan out, have they?! :rotfl:

I need to go back through the thread to reply to people but I just wanted to report in right now as I'm sitting surrounded by stuff & am feeling a bit overwhelmed! I actually feel a little panicky about how much I have, but I wonder if that is good for the long-term sense of needing to stop buying? I now have a third stash list and it still isn't everything :embarasse. This one is very useful though as it was stuff that was stored in a drawer under my bed and it's all the really old bits. I've been reunited with some old friends but have found an awful lot that I'm less keen to work my way through  I now have a cardboard box full of things to tackle first. I'm sure this is for the best and I'm really glad that I found you all but it's a bit of a bumpy emotional rollercoaster so far :o.

(I'm sorry if this is a bit downbeat. Maybe this is normal when people first write up stash lists?? Xxx)

I reckon that's perfectly fine. Just don't get sucked into pushing that feeling to one side and you will be a great swathe of the way through your stash. ;)

  • Thank you Kaz. That's very sweet (and sensible) advice :A

I did the only practical thing that I could - I went and washed my hair! I think I'm quite lucky in that I only have two things that I have to throw away - a half used body scrub and a third of a bottle of Time Delay body lotion. (Both had a truly awful off smell ) I think that I can rescue/reuse everything else. I'll add essential oils to the things that have lost their scent but otherwise seem ok. It's helpful to have my priority use box though. Hopefully I won't waste anything else.

UU3 - Body Shop olive shower gel (lovely but I'm sure it hasn't been made for years )

UU4 - Phyto Express Conditioner (20ml sample) - WNBA as it made my hair sticky and dry

UU5 - India Hicks Island Living hand cream (25ml) - WNBA as expensive but would be very happy if I received it as a present (it's lovely but I'm not buying)

    Onwards and upwards...:)

:j Ladies, I have an exclusive: I have FINALLY found a hair Holy Grail: Dr. Organics Royal Jelly Shampoo! :j

It will be another UU in ten minutes after my shower. I'm delighted...I've had such problems finding a new shampoo as everything else seems to make my hair go mad, and it's a much more reasonable £5.39 compared to the £13.something I spent on a bottle of Kerastase, which was pretty good, but not as good as this. (Alas, the days of cheap'n'cheerful £1 shampoos leaving my hair perfect have passed me by!)

Bees, I could almost forgive you for being able to sting! :rotfl:

  • Oh! So many replies :) Thank you all :A:A

It really has given me a fright but I can't quite express how grateful I am to find you all. If I told my parents or BF that I'm stopping buying toiletries or that I have 'too much' they would just say 'about time' or something snarky and that would make me feel so awful and discouraged that I'd probably go and buy something! (I have to say that my Mum, Dad and BF are lovely but none of them understand why I like beauty products and they wouldn't think they were being discouraging but...well, I imagine lots of you have had similar experiences?)

MaddieMay - thank you for the list of alternative uses. I wouldn't have thought to use stick lip balm on my cuticles but that's a great idea :T I've been bowled over by how kind and thoughtful people here are (I'm still reading back through previous months for encouragement and ideas)

Adela31 - thank you for the idea of a present when I've cleared this box (it's middling size but v full! :rotfl:). I'm saving £1 for each UU and was going to aim for a Clarisonic but now I wonder about saving for a necklace or bracelet that will remind me that I'm doing well/not to buy anything else?

Mad Scientist - thank you! It helps to know that others have felt overwhelmed but have made it through that phase. (I'm not brave enough to look at my make-up yet  I think I'll settle into this challenge first!) I hope that you enjoy all your Green People things. They sound lovely/useful and were really great value :) (I almost bought the Groupon too)

InaPickle - I love your name! :) Thank you for the encouragement and I think that you're right that I need to hang onto the 'eeeek!' feeling a little in order to stay on track :o

    Thank you, lovely ladies :A
  • Ooooh! Congrats on finding a HG shampoo Pickle :j:j:j
  • I have some UU's

4x lancome genifique youth concentrate samples - I would not purchase the full bottle from just these samples. The 4 samples lasted me all week, and although my skin did feel hydrated, I don't think I will spend that kind of money for it.

I tried nail marbling tonight and it didn't work so well! I've watched some more tutorials and think I know what to do next time. Hopefully I'll get it done a bit better next time!

ETA: I found 2 bottles of shampoo in the drawer tonight so that's fine; I can get away without buying any for another couple of months :)

I had no problem getting the green people groupon as I have two autistic sons, who find minty toothpaste, even childrens or mild mint FAR too overpowering. Green People Mandarin toothpaste on the other hand, they love. So used the groupon to stock up on that, no ins because they dont have a stack!
