No CWP triggered for us here on the East Coast....yet. I think the nearest weather station is Norwich Airport.
I didn't expect one just yet, the weather has not been that cold apart from the last few days - but if it doesn't warm up soon then we will probably hit the 7 day trigger this week.paddedjohn wrote: »why cant us workers get the payment? after all we feel the cold too and we dont get any extra wages dues to a temp drop, we just have to budget our cash to last. Scrap the payments i say.
Cold Weather Payments are given if you are on a low income and have additional needs. In my case I am on income support (because my incapacity benefit, contrary to poular opinion as expressed by the Daily Mail, not only does not allow me a life of luxury, but leaves me with less than the law deems necessary for me to live on.) and I am also disabled......if you really want the CWP why not take my very low income and my disabilities - and in exchange I'll take your health and job!0 -

Had one trigger here in East Anglia, triggered in the last day or so.
It has been cold here, I have been watching our local weather station stats and it has been blooming cold according to them, we haven't been above freezing for days now.
I actually thought we might get away with no triggers this year as it has been so mild, I even convinced myself it was a case of Murphy's law as I had bought a super duper snow clearer for my car from Lidls months ago....at least I finally managed to use it yesterday. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

That old chestnut again eh, im sure you would swap your health for mine but that is not the point. The system gives people ample enough cash to live on and to put a pound or two away each week for the 'unexpected' cold snap we have every winter wouldnt break your banks, working people feel the cold too and we also have to turn our heating up so we can stay fit and healthy enough to go back to work to enable us to pay our bills but we dont get any extra wages during the winter to pay the bill, no we budget for it just like everyone else should.;)Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

Not everyone on benefits gets enough to be able to afford to budget for the cold weather. They budget for the winter - but CWP are given for longer periods of temperatures below freezing.
Generally speaking, those who work can move around to help keep warm. Those entitled to CWP are more likely to be restricted in their movements. They will be the old and the disabled.
It's not simply a matter of 'feeling cold'. Those entitled top CWP are also more likely to be affected by the cold. For example, those with a compromised respiratory system need the air they breathe to be warm.
Giving CWP can actually save the government money. Keeping someone in hospital for a couple of weeks because they have bronchitis that is not responding to antibiotics - where a GP has linked cold housing to the non-responsive bronchitis - costs a lot more than the CWP!
You are very fond of quoting the higher amounts of benefits that people claim. It might help to look at what the poorer end are entitled to. Long-term budgeting is not an option. But I suspect you know that and just enjoy stirring up bad feeling against benefit claimants.0 -

Just checked the website - I currently get working tax credits but I can't work out if this would mean I am entitled to the CWP because it seems to have every other benefit on there.I made a mistake once, believeing people on the internet were my virtual friends. It won't be a mistake that I make again!0
