Arrived in good time (about 40 minutes early) for a 6:30pm screening. At 6:45, we were told the film would start around 7pm. At 7:15pm, we were shown two trailers. Then at 7:30pm, we were told the film would start in about 10 minutes time. I waited another 10 minutes or so, then decided to leave. Several other people also left.
The bouncers would not allow use of mobile phones at all after 6:30pm, so I had nothing to do during this time, having read the Evening Standard at least three times.
I had planned to get food at a nearby chain restaurant after the film, however they would've been closed by the time the film ended had I waited for it to start.
I appreciate that the tickets are free, but what a waste of my evening.
Similar thing happened to me - think it was to see Blue Jasmine in September. It was at the farthest cinema I get tickets for, so quite a drive and a car park to pay for.....
Managed to get 2 good seats, and then sat down to wait....
and wait......
and wait.......
Several times staff came in to announce the film would soon be starting....... but it never did,
Over an hour after the film was due to start I gave up...... and outright asked staff if we could see something else.
Manager did give out free tickets for any other film we wanted.... but only after I pointedly ask.
My moto is, if you don't ask, you don't get....
Still annoying to waste an evening:cool:
Thankfully this doesn't happen often0 -
Went to see Mandela in Cardiff Cineworld last night. Probably will be an Oscar nominee
The film started at 6.30pm not as the email we received said, it said starting and 6pm and no late comers so i think everyone was a bit surprised and people were still wandering in at 6.40. When it did start we had sound but no picture - modern technology lol. The cinema managed to sort that out though and restarted it from the beginning. I would recommend the film, i learnt quite a bit that i didn't know

Films starting with sound and no picture is a pretty usual affair at the Cardiff Cineworld. Has happened to me three times so far. Trouble is the cinemas don't have proper projectionist's, in days gone by someone would have always been watching the first few minutes to make sure everything starts the right way.0

I went to see The Hobbit in Cineworld Cardiff last night and that was the same - no picture but sound for about 5 minutes !0

After seeing Mandela last night I can recommend it. Idris Elba was brilliant especially the voice and it was good that they aged him gradually. It started bang on 6pm althoug a few people came in late and it's the first free screening where the cinema was full.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

My screening of Mandela was full too. However it was in the teeny tiny screen so not a surprise perhaps.
I also loved the film.0 -

I also loved the film.
Even more poignant I suppose now he has died...
Seems strange, but when I saw it a few weeks back at one of the earlier screenings, he was still alive and there had been no recent health scares.....
The film made me feel rather differently to Winnie - she suffered greatly, what with her having to bring up her daughters alone for 27 years, in an incredible hostile environment, with raids on her home by the security forces, arrests, imprisonments, solitary confinement etc while her husband was in prison.
I can understand how she became bitter and vengeful....:cool:0 -
Saw long walk last night. Loved it. Definitely an oscar nomination.0
