A shame Sky weren't as hot on the phone thing at The Railway Man at Liverpool last night. Can't even blame it on kids.Mature people phone fiddling and the bloody woman sat next to me, hadn't even muted her mobile. I heard some tweeting noise and after some time she took her phone out of her pocket, fiddled with it, showed it to her companion and put it back in her pocket, still without muting it! I was furious.0

Wow, what an evening....
Slow yet absolutely memserising.
"Harrowing" was the word I heard someone say on the way out.
The contrast between the post-war peace and grey beauty of Berwick upon Tweed and the heat and hell of the Indo-Burmese railway and PoW/interrogation camps.
Spellbinding performance by Colin Firth - and young Jeremey Irvine.... Gosh didn't he look the image of the actual young Lomax ?!!
I have read much about what happened when Singapore fell, and have seen many film and TV programme, but the violence depicted here to the two British Soldiers .......(you'll know the bit I mean if you have seen the film)
You are warned before the film starts that there will be torture scenes btw.
Is it any wonder the PoW victims of the Japanese fought for years to get compensation. Seeing the beatings dished out with such relish by the Japanese in this film, makes me wonder how so many did actually survive.
To think of anyone I know and love having received such a beating............
I cannot remember the exact words, but there is a scene towards the end of the film, when Firth meets up with his Japanese 'interpretor' nemesis Nagase - who talks about the "Tragedy of War..."
Lomax corrects him and says what happened to him and hundreds of thousands of other was not a 'Tragedy' it was a crime.
I will certainly be recommending family and friends to see The Railway Man, but it will not be the usual Christmas fare.0 -
Walter Mitty - as odd as the trailers looked. Really thought SO was going to be his dad0

Their father/son dynamic was strange because there's only a five year gap between Sean Penn and Ben Stiller, the similar ages made me rule out them being father and son quite early on. I enjoyed the film, but it's not something I'd pay to see. Some people at the screening were laughing their heads off, but apart from the helicopter pilot's scenes, I didn't think it was laugh out loud funny.0

Does anyone know if Sky have stopped doing their rewards as it has gone from the website?0
-
-
Everything you need to know is on the Sky forum but in short, yes, the cinema tickets rewards scheme has now ended.0
-
No need to be jealous anymore! haha0
-
Oh no, that's quite annoying, at least then you felt that you were getting something back for all the money it costs0
