Unwanted Mobile Insurance

Ive started online banking more often as I have a new MAC (my PC worried me with Virus etc)

I noticed that I was having £6.99 taken out of my account every month by an insurance company used by T-mobile (who I am with).
The problem is, why do I need mobile insurance when my bank account offers me gadget insurance on pretty much everything i can carry in my bag?!
Ive known this since I was 18, and have always declined the insurance through a phone network. So this, I feel is something that was added to my account without my knowledge.

Anybody else had the same problem? Im going to talk to them today, just wondering if anybody has had any luck getting it all back??

When you say you "noticed"...how long has this payment been going out..how long have you known about it?

You'll have it as you will havbe agreed to or been sold a policy. You will also have been provided tieh a 'Key Facts' leaflet outlining what is covered. They are not to know whay type of Bank benefits you recieve, so it is up to you to cancel if you do not require the cover.

As for 'getting it all back' - not really, it is insurance, and would have to pay out in the event of claim, the fact you did not does notinvalidate it. If you never took out the policy, you can argue there's been an error, but not oterwise.

Incidentally, your Bank insurance may not cover you for the cost of fraudulent calls in the case of theft, which at times can be more than the value of the handset.
  • I only noticed yesterday when I was in the bank signing up for online banking.
The thing is, I don't remember signing up or signing anything other than the phone contract.
I don't have that phone anymore, which means I've been paying for thin air.
I understand, that because I haven't claimed doesn't mean its invalid,
I wouldn't of contact them if I had lost my phone as I never knew I had it!

    Hopefully hear something soon!

Sorry to be off topic but Macs get Virus's too. They are not as common, as Windows is more popular so mainly the target but they are out there.

Back on topic it's your responsibility to cancel insurance, Best guess is you got a month trial free with a new contact and didn't cancel it.
The fact you no longer have the phone is irrelevent how would they know that?

Sorry it's not what you want to hear, but it's your reposnisbility to check, even if you didn't bank online you should check your paper statements from the bank.

Complain to the company about misselling and with proofs that you did have other insurance at the time of buying the phone and that you still have it.

How would the 3rd party know you already haven an insurance?
Do you expect others to read your mind to hand hold you all your life?
Are you blaming the mobile company for not able to read your mind so it's their fault?

The bank should have informed you about this as you already have an insurance with them.

It seem your bank and mobile company have been unfair to you for not letting you correct your fault.

It can't be your fault for not checking the bank statement can it?

This is another one who expect 3rd party to read the mind.
It is also banks fault as well for not informing their customer about the insurance which is included with the account.

I think people need to take the responsibility for their action rather then blame others. It's got nothing to do with the op not checking the bank statement is it?

I have never said what you are implying.
No I don't approve not checking the paperwork and bank statements.
Neither I approve companies 'hoodwinking' customers into buying something that they don't ask and don't need - a la notorious CPW & Co.

Usually it makes no sense to complain as it is impossible to prove that a customer was not able to use the insurance. However, in this case I see a slight possibility of claiming the refund successfully.

Macs are great. I have one too.:j
But you don't need a Mac to read your bank statements!
Did you not look at those low-tech paper ones they sent you?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

May be not, may be royal mail was delivering them at the wrong time or may be needed a tool to open them which was not provided by the mobile company, it can't be op's fault
