Squashed cramped homes-how do people manage sharing cramped conditions?

When I asked a Japanese friend how she got on sharing rooms with paper walls with her family she told me "privacy is a state of mind"
I am bemused by people thinking its a problem having kids without own rooms; my daughter and I had to share a room to get onto the property ladder. I went to bed when she was asleep and got up before she woke, so she never felt she shared a room with me, but I bet she didn't like schoolfriends knowing she shared a room with mum

But just picture Charlie Buckets' family, they all got on fine!

Chatham is horrible! Most people will do anything to get OUT of the place - as your link proves!
I'ts perfectly good for the tens of thousands who live there, and the only realistic first freehold house for many locals. I wouldn't have my nice house in the country if I had held my nose at the prospect of living in Medway for a few years.

Most cheaper London properties are going to be in very dodgy areas.

Anywhere's OK if it's all you can afford. But no-one really wants to live in Chatham - it's just a stepping stone
