Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 31st January. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Very cold here this morning & the car will need scraping.
I had lovely phonecall y'day from DGD1, she was 4 yesterday & phoned me to thank me for her My Little Pony, she is absolutely besotted with it.
I'm wondering what today will bring at work, having spent an arm & a leg on the new software for my machines, it seems it doesn't do what we need, I can foresee trouble ahead when blame is apportioned!
Ham, egg & chips for tea.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning, Hester, and all who follow. A very early start for me as DH couldn't sleep (and I can't stay asleep if he's awake) so have been up since 4am. Feeling a little blurry but doing alright and wondering how my "caffeine-free" start to the new year is going to stand this! I'll be having a coffee, I think. It looks cold but clear out, and while we did have a weather warning about ice, I'm hoping that there won't be too much on the main roads. I'm a little worried about DH and some other things but will get through it.

Day 2 of my grocery challenge and I hope to stick to this one. If my rough calculations are right then I will but I daren't trust to that! Tea tonight will be chicken tikka thighs on open sandwiches with salad.

Hope everyone has a good day!

    Morning all,
grabbing some coffee and peace before DGD2 wakes, cold at -2c here, not looking forward to taking her to play school. I've swept and washed the kitchen floor, 3mns later DH was up and walking all over it, great.
Sorting out my wardrobe today, all of my clothes are 2 sizes too big now so i'm going to attempt to take them in, some will go to the CS.
More HM soup for DH's lunch, dinner is sausage cass & veg all from my ever decreasing freezer stock.
Must pay the last of my Tax bill, and get some ironing done. Oh what an exciting life I lead.
Off to pack DGD's lunch box.
Hope it's a good day for all.
    JACKIO, Hope your Ok Hun.

Morning Hester, Kitchenbunny, Beth and all who follow,

It is really cold here but we do not have any snow and they have stopped forecasting it for us for later in the week.

Not a lot to report here, busy day at work then ballet class.
Feeling really tired, I am fed up at getting up in the dark.

Tea tonight will be something made from the LO chicken from the weekend and something that will fit in with all my children's dancing and sport.

Hugs to all in need, especially Molly, LW, Beth, Miffy, MrsMix, JackieO and Lou.

Hope Eliza's toe is better JG.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)
  • Morning Everyone,

First day back at work. The day went alright, but feel exhausted now, and its been snowing for the past few hours, so not looking forward going outside and waiting for the bus. Not much else happening here.

I am going to start looking for jobs over the next few days. Dreading the whole job hunting process, but hopefully something will turn up.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Best of luck FMW.

Morning all, got up to hang out the washing - well drape it around the radiators whilst the heating is on. Might as well take advantage of the heating! My bread machine decided to walk off the kitchen worktop last night whilst it was doing its stuff. Not sure how it did it, but it was in the middle of the kitchen floor - so it must have flown!! Unfortunately it is broken, so will see if I can get a cheap one second hand or something.

Tonights tea - stirfry and plum crumble with icecream. Hope its not too cold out there!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • Morning all,
Kids both up and ready for school/college. Glad there is no frost on the car - that always adds another 5 minutes onto an already hectic morning schedule.
Teaching year 1 today - we're making vegetable soup! You would be amazed at the number of children who a) have neved had soup and b) can't name half the vegetables we will be using.
HM pizza for tea as I have some mozarella that needs using up.
Tried to make cherry Easiyo yoghurt yesterday, but it hasn't set at all:( - any ideas what I've done wrong?
Must feed the chickens before I go to school - they are stil in bed though! I hate, hate, hate these dark mornings.

Re: the walking breadmaker, I bought a Tesco brand breadmaker and have found it does what it says on the tin for a reasonable price. Wouldn't be without it now.

Also, a word of praise for Lakeland. I bought a Remoska about 5 years ago. It has been used every day since (the main range has hardly been on at all). Anyhow, the non-stick lining was flaking off, so range Customer Services who sent me A BRAND NEW MOSKA!
Simply can't fault that company. Love em to bits.

    Have a good day

    Morning everyone

Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Dull, chilly and overcast here this morning. DH up and has had brekkie, but will be taking it steady today. Boys now getting ready to go to school. Had a few jobs to do yesterday and did some but really didn't do much. Dinner last night was chicken, chips and beans for the menfolk, and salad and jacket for me. I'm going back to work this morning - be glad to get back to some sort of normality - whatever that is! Not sure what we will be having for dinner tonight - so will sort that out when I get in from work, have a reasonable selection of things in so I'm sure I will be able to produce something!

    Not much else going on.

Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone ((hugs))
Today is my first day back at uni, and I'm in 9-6 eek. I don't know if my brain can stay awake that long.
My sourdough starter seems to have bubbled a tiny bit overnight, despite it being about 10C in the house. I'll feed it later and fingers corssed it keeps going! Has anyone made their own sourdough starter? Did you do this for feeding it "throw away all but 75g of starter and feed back to full weight"? The online recipes seem really complicated but it looked so easy on The Baking Brothers! There must be a thread on it somewhere.

    Good Morning All

Not as cold as I expected and no frost here :)

This morning need to take DD to college, (she starts late today and there are no buses after 7am:mad:) So that is the morning gone.

Afternoon will be some housework and paperwork. Dinner is easy tonight, OH will be having leftover stew and the kids and I will have macaroni cheese. Am about to order an online shop from Mr A as have £10 voucher from their price guarantee but desperately need some bits today as well.

No football training tonight :j so once have picked DD up that is it for me no more going out - love evenings like that.

(((Hugs))) wherever needed, keep warm today you lot.x
