Lumpy Pillows!!!

Hi everyone

Can you help me?!

My pillows are maybe 4 years old now - I bought them in an M&S sale when I had some vouchers, along with bedding and a duvet. Everything else is fine but the pillows seem to have gone seriously lumpy - I mean literally there are lumps in the pillow! I've tried poofing them up and giving them a good shake but I'm afraid they've had their day. They're made of some new-fangled filling - I don't know what it's called but it's some hypoallergenic, eco-friendly, sustainable thing...I have corn in my head???

Is there anything you know of that I can do to save them or do I commit funds, bite the bullet, and invest (money I don't really have) in some new ones?

Thanks in advance!

I just bought a dunlopillo, based on so many people who own one saying how long lasting and comfortable they are. Well, it is very comfortable and it's made from a pillow shaped foamed latex so I don't see it having issues with the filling clumping up or going flat, but I do have yet to put it to any serious long term testing.

  • Hi Elsiepac, I have had the same problem in the past with "hollowfibre" pillows - the ones that your head bounces off of. I got mine - cheapy ones - and after washing they were terrible.

I have heard of people putting a tennis ball in the washing machine/tumble dryer to help to stop the lumps forming but I havent tried it myself.

Someone else will no doubt come along to give you a much more helpful answer.

I've had the same problem and I've resorted to undoing one end, taking out the stuffing and smoothing it out. They're not brilliant afterwards but they are useable which they definitely weren't before.

My mum invested in these when I was a child - some 50 odd years ago - and I took mine with me when I left home. It was still going strong when I got married.

Thanks you - you've just reminded me that I promised I would invest in them again and throw out all the lumpy bumpys and the sad flat one's too:beer:

    Hi guys

Thanks so much for all your suggestions

There has been a cosmic coincidence to my advantage! :money:

Random Groupon email advertising Silentnight Memory Foam pillow for £12 instead of £49.95...

clicked on it and it was 2 for £20 or 4 for £36 with a saving of £163.95 ish plus £4.99 postage... obviously I have purchased these, how fortuitous! :T

Can't believe the timing! Just waiting for my code tonight and then I shall see how good they are...should be really good if they are worth that much! :rotfl:

(oh, and referred two other people who also bought them, so made £12 back to use on my next Groupon purchase) :money::money::money:

I washed my pillows and now the stuffing has gone all twisted inside! How can I fix it without having to buy new ones?

Edit: never mind managed to manipulate them back into shape

I never have managed this either Pretty. I've washed several pillows over the years and had to throw them away (there's only so many garden kneeler cushions a girl needs). Now I just buy reasonably priced pillows that I don't mind throwing away and a couple of pillow protectors to change and wash.

I unpicked one end of the cover, pulled the inside back into place and sewed the end back up by hand. It didn't take too long.
