It will be useful for you write to the company, asking them to attend your property only in the presence of your husband and that all appointments must be pre-arranged, with at least twenty-four hours notice. Send this by recorded delivery, as well as by e-mail.

If they ignore this, you definitely have a case for harassment.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

No point allowing you to get worked up, it will only hinder things.

Keep it all factual and emotionless. (Easier said than done:))

As I thought may happen, the plumbing is now threatening to take me to court if I don't pay by tomorrow.

I have evidence of the problems etc and I have again offered to pay them if they fix the problems but they are still insisting that I shouldn't be putting water on the taps.

I would like your advice please as I have the money to pay them as the insurance co have given me the money but out of principle I want the job done properly.

What does them taking me to court involve as I really have no idea.

    Thanks in advance.

    What insurance company?

What communication has taken place between you and the supplier in the last month?

Have they come to review the work?

Why is the plumber threatening you? Your contract is with whoever supplied the bathroom, not their contractors?

If the works shoddy and still in a state of disrepair don't pay. Let him take you to court!! Better him pay the court fees than you pay his money then have to take him to court later!

If he takes you to court it is very simply:
    - he files claim online
    - court notifies you
    - you opt to defend or provide proof you have paid
    - if you defend, you submit your account
    - you attend a court date (usually always the defendants local court) and each party presents their case
    - a judgement is made

It usually takes about 6-8 weeks from filing to hearing. It's very user friendly, non-technical and absolutely nothing to fret over!! Don't be daunted by the threat of court.

    Thanks arcon

Well I wrote to them and explained that I wasn't happy and they came out again to look at the taps and do decorating touch ups, told me that I cant put water on the taps and spilt White gloss paint on the floor which my husband then trod all over the carpets. Apparently the paint is my husbands fault as he should have been looking where he was going.

As for the taps, I have told them that I have confirmation from the makers of the taps that I can put water on them and they said that is wrong and won't come out unless I pay the balance.

As for the insurance money (I cLaimed on my building ins as bath broke and they paid me) I still have the remainder of the money but don't see why I should pay them if the job is shoddy.

So it looks like court then which to be honest,I am happy about as I don't seem to be able to solve this myself.

    Oh right,

Your confIrmarion from the manufacturers of the taps is pretty strong evidence to be honest, that plus common sense of course.
I imagine they will just try pressure you in to paying, maybe send a solicitors letter or some other scare tactics - after which likely move on and accEpt the loss and move on. Just don't cave in, send the a standard letter back every time giving them the opportunity to sot it out and await for their next move.

I'm not a plumber but I've done a lot plumbing work and all the taps I've ever fited have a rubber seal between tap and sink/bath.

Do your taps have any movement in them, have they been tightened properly?

Do you have a pretty standard bath and sink?

Thanks Arcon, I have sent them a letter as instructed by cab and trading standards and i will keep you posted. This has upset me as I dont want to go throught this but im not going to back down. I have done nothing wrong.

Zanconi - yes its a standard very basis suite and taps arent moving around at all.

    Many thanks
