Would you buy nearly new goods for your baby?

:rotfl: i buy clothes that are more than a season old. my reason is that i know what brands fit my baby best. i know next isn't exactly 'designer' but it's too expensive for me to buy everything new, and i'm a fan of recycling for ethical reasons too. i buy second hand next clothes from ebay etc. knowing that they will fit him, and couldn't care less how many years old they are. i don't actually know how old things are because i don't look at the catalogues. when he was tiny i bought lots of next things with monkeys on just because i loved them and i thought their current designs were dull (dogs and diggers i think).
i buy monsoon shirts because i love the quality. they might not be the current trend but that doesn't matter to me at all. this year's trendy kids at the playgroups seemed to dressed in pink all the time anyway and i didn't like it.
at the moment he wants t-shirts with thomas the tank engine, bob the builder, tractors or farm animals, or JCB t-shirts. who am i to argue? :rotfl:'bad mothers club' member 13

Babies don't care so long as they are warm and dry, so yes, second-hand for most things in this household (although most of the large items were a gift, and we "invested" in a new Mothercare padded, reclining highchair which was super for both the boys). As they get a bit older though, they do start to become little fashion victims. :rolleyes:Don't see the point anymore in offering advice to people who only want to be agreed with...0

Most people are horrified that we won't be decorating a 'nursery' for the baby, but I fail to see how some stencils and flash curtains benefit anyone except us! I wonder if maybe I'm just really tight ....
Me too!!
People think your nuts. "Oh, your not decortaing the nursery!"
Really people in this country have no idea how MOST OF the rest of the world live.
MMmmmm...maybe we are just tightwads!?0 -

I wish I could get over it, cos my baby is due in 12 weeks and I really need to buy some nappies hahaha!
Congrats!
Off topic I know, but don't buy nappies until after baby is born. Look into brands, but only make a final decision after trying them on your bundle. I bought mine when I was pregnant and they were completely the wrong fit...my skinny thighed baby didn't have enough of a leg to stop everything pouring down the side of his leg.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

And it means I can put off spending money a bit longer - hurray!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
i second that. the brand i bought didn't suit my chubby baby but would have been good for a skinny one. i bought a lot of different brands to try but had bought a whole set of the bambino mio ones (and in newborn too - what a waste! wouldn't fit when we came out of hospital! there's someone who does a trial pack of different types for £30 which is coincidentally the refund many councils seem to give to mums who use washables.'bad mothers club' member 13

I've bought quiet alot of things 2nd hand. Have to admit I've got abit of a thing for Mamas and Papas stuff (but wont pay the full price). I think my best buy was a 3 in 1 Ultima pram with 2 chassis that I got off ebay, V rich lady got bored with prams easily. The pushchair part is still in regular use at MIL's. I wouldnt buy a 2nd hand car seat or matress and would proberbly not buy a 2nd hand umbrella fold stroller and I personnally feel that they wear quiet easily.Sorting my life out one day at a time0

I think your idea for this business is great and if you had lots of MSE type people in your area I think you'd do well. However I think we are in a minority when I realise that a lot of people won't put their kids in last season's outfits! (It just isn't an issue with me. I'm lucky I get loads of hand-me downs for both my kids - all nice stuff in good to excellent condition but definitely not this season!)
Anyway I wish your venture every success and if you get off the ground keep us posted!!0
