Blackberry Playbook - Worth it now?

  • Honestly? I surf, read on line newspapers, sneak a look at Facebook and do the Youtube thing.

Out here there were huge promotions on the PB before Christmas. On my flight to Mexico I counted seven of the things in use on the plane. All were in use by over 40s, so maybe they appeal to my age group or they got them at an even better price because they are BBM types?

Oh, and the camera takes a pretty good picture. I just have to figure out how to move it off the PB.

Youtube is fine...it has an app for that...don't know about the other stuff. FB isn't fab but twitter is. Browser good...

Good solid piece of kit. Also has PDF reader etc and an epub/mobi reader you can download for about £1 :)

Blackberry PB 2.0 OS is out today :)

So yeah...should be good...will be back on when I've tried it out..

Best get it downloaded before lunch before all the yanks come on though. Supposed to be like a major improvement on 1.8 or whatever..

I upgraded today..OS 2.0 is better in just about every way.

Folders, like iOS, a much faster camera and browser.

And Print To Go which I will use a lot like printing out my rail and bus tickets to my PB, which I would be taking with me, anyway. Saves having to use an actual printer for anything anymore.

Android apps - most of the ones I want are already there in App World, and an improved Video store.

There's stuff like an email client and calendar which I don't use, anyway.

Altogether a worthy and free upgrade.

Otherwise yeah, ditto like OS 2.0...not bad for the kit...

Also got a good flip case for it off ebay :)...think it was only like £10 or something? Better than paying £40 off BB

  • Look around for a basic Kindle model. That's what I did. The cost of the Kindle and the PB was still less than that of an IPad. The kindle was the only thing on the IPad that I really wanted.

In fact, Amazon is running commercial in the US right now, showing how a family can buy a basic Kindle and a KindleFire and one other one for less than the price of an IPad.
