Afternoon all - very proud of myself - another NSD here. I was drivng past Tesco at around 4pm (not usually that late ) and was tempted to pop in and see if there were aby bargains. Bt I stood firm and decided that I had everything so why bother.
Dinner tonight in monce and rice with a cheese topping. Yesterday I made one pund of mince (lamb and soya combine) stretch with lentils, veg, baked beans etc to shepherds pie last night, four "lunch time size" portions of shepherd pie for the freezer and two portions of mnce to go with the rice. Go me!!
On a downside I made the magic lemon pudding mentioned on page one. Dont know if the quantities are right but it ended up like a small meringue top with loads of lemon sauce. It tasted nice but very heavy use of eggs for very little. Has anyone else had success with this recipe or is t me?44 day challenge

I think I've blown the budget again. We were doing ever so well until we went into L*dl as I wanted caster sugar for school, they had cunningly reduced their frozen geese to £9.99 from £17.99 and the temptation was too great:oI was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

Having a big dilemma which I need to decide on by tomorrow (help appreciated!;))
I have a £7 off £50 Mr T spend which is valid until next Sun - it's still quite a lot for me to spend in one go so have been buying essentials only for the past couple of weeks and was looking to go next weekend.
DM arrived today with a £5 off £40 spend (she ended up getting 2 and couldn't use them both before they ran out) - which is only valid until tomorrow.
Now ... £40 is probably a more realistic spend for me but struggling with not holding out to use the higher value voucher ..... HELP!:o
With either trip, I would be stocking up on things that will last a good couple of months (things like whole chickens / mince which they have on 4 for £12 etc).Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Rising from the ashes £7 / £50 is 14% discount whereas £5/£40 is 12.5 % discount. Is it really worth spending the extra £8 in order to save the 1.5% difference? I would say not - unless you really don't want to go spendng tomorrow - in which case wait until next week. Personally I would wait - not for the extra discount - as I have tried to say its not that much in real terms - but because I couldn't guarentee that I wouldn't find a excuse to go next week as well and therefore spend bags more money44 day challenge

Hi rising,
I think Ninno is right in terms of the % saved. I also agree it will mean you must be disciplined and either give the £50 spend voucher away, to your DD perhaps, or screw it up and put it in the bin.
You've already said you don't need to spend that amount so keep the expenditure as low as possible by going tomorrow and still feel you have saved something.
Only you can truly answer whether:
a) You can be disciplined and not go again next week
b) You need to spend the extra £8
Have you done a list online at MrT or My supermarket to get an idea of what you'd get for your £35 or £43? It might help.
Sorry to not be of more help.
All the best,

Thanks guys, you are brilliant:T (funny how another perspective can help so much).
I won't have the problem of going both weeks - I vary rarely shop at Mr T (too expensive IMHO) so it's really only when I have a voucher and know there's stuff on offer that I buy that I do.
The £50 one is a Ccard one so don't think anyone else would be able to use it .... but I'll try to give the smaller one away for someone else to benefit:)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Popped into town today to go to Wilko's to pick up a birthday present for a party my littlest is going to tomorrow. Got some craft stuff and a card for under £10 ( remembered to check what wrapping paper I had before going out, I usually forget and buy more wrapping paper). Also picked up some curtain wire for my voiles in the lounge, I took them down to wash at Christmas and put the wire somewhere safe <rolls eyes>. will be glad to get them back up again. Also picked up a stainless steel utensil holder so I can put the cutlery in for the table and every one can grab what they need.
Came back home a different way to normal and passed a CS I had not been in before, so just had tothe clothes were much more reasonable than the others in town and they had lots of bits and pieces which the other CS seem to not put out. Picked up a toy for DC2's birthday in September. A necklace and earring set for a :)present to one of my SIL's, will just need a new box. A pair of shorts for DC1. A pair of beach shoes for DC3. All for £9.50
so I am a very happy bunny.
