Our local Healt Trust has a deal with The Cloud, so there's no issues with 'safety' as they also have a secure login for staff to use. If this fails, a MiFi device is much better than a dongle as it is less obtrusive, and can sit in a locker undisturbed.

I agree with Boozecruiser on the windfarm debate. Only ones that work all the time are those out at sea.
The way forward is wave generation. Wave-powered generators not only generate power, they also help slow-down coastal erosion as well.

Why not get a dongle for your stay in hospital?

Actually, I went in with a prostate problem......

So they fitted me with a Catheter Dongle! :rotfl:

Or is that too much information?:D

P.S. The type of Dongle you mean means 3G....way too expensive for me....Free is better.

Thank You for all of the votes.

I see that up to now around 77% agree with me that Wi Fi should be available in Hospital.

Provided I guess that people using Wi Fi on whatever showed all due consideration to others in the Ward.

  • Wi-fi should be there if not for the patient then atleast for the relatives but it has it side-effects,if one is online he will not be able to concentrate on the patient properly. There can be time limitation like the wi-fi connection can start from late night or early morning.

always makes me laugh when i read about no mobile phones etc in hospital as they could interfere with delicate ''medical'' devices - these delicate devices have exactly the same electronic innards as your laptop/sat nav/tv/car etc etc - they dont make special delicate medical electronics!!! - has anyone ever experienced any of these going kaput when they turn on their mobile or tablet - i very much doubt it

Leaving aside regualtions around medical devices (as Postman99 has said) hat restrict what cna be done to them once they leave the factory If your laptop/ phone crashes you get the hump, curse losing a bit of work and reboot it.

Cars electroncs are always installed so if they fail they fail safe, and don't interfere with basics like steering and brakes. Yes the power brakes and power steering may fail but the system still works even if it' becomes extremly heavy to use.

If a life support machine crashed you can't reboot the patient.
  • When my OH was in Frimley Park there was no issue with him using his mobile.

He should be in Nuffield in Oxford at the moment (another story of a hospital mess up!), when we went up there to check in he was told there was wifi available on the ward (don't know yet if it was free) and he was free to use his mobile.

When he finally gets around to getting in there for the operation he was due then he will be taking his phone for normal contact and emails etc, and I will be taking my tablet in for him to use while I am there.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

So who's going to be paying for it? Why should a hospital trust have to put in Wifi, I'd much rather they spent it on patient care, not a nice to have such as wifi.

Although I'd prefer it not to be so expensive, like hospital car parking, I'd prefer to see it be cost neutral (or even a revenue generator) to the hospital, and that will likely mean it will be expensive to use just like the TV/phones.

The infrastructure, installation costs and hardware needs to be paid for, and that comes back the bedside TV issues. Why do you think the TV and Phones are so expensive?

Because back in 2000 in the "interest of patient choice" the goverment allowed private companies to install by bed TV and Phones rather than do it themselves or have common rooms. These private companies have contracts that state the charges and these charges have always been seen as excessive, but the costs have to be paid.
