  • Just because I could make a batch and cook them in one go, then eat them over the course of the year whenever I fancy instead of having to start baking each time.

Which would also save you on fuel for the oven ...

    Hi Dandy

there is a thread on home canning, which may give some insight as someone mentioned canning.

I'll merge this with cake in a jar thread later on

hi, thats not really what i was meaning, im looking for info on putting dry cake mixes in a jar, not the ready made cake :)
  • You may want to have a look at this site,
wwwfrugal101.com they have loads of ideas on that site, remember it does not have to just be cakes you could do soup mixes as well with all the pulses making nice patterns with the colours in layers. they also have a good mix for hot chocolate as well, with a pretty cup and some marshmallows, that could sort out a few people.

I did a cake-in-a-jar thing for my Dad one year. He loved it. It was all the dry ingredients to make Christmas muffins, all layered into the jar in stripes. I can't quite remember where I got the recipe, but I think it was 'Country Kitchen' magazine, a few years ago. I made a label with the instructions, and what wet ingredients to add, bought a cheap wooden spoon and tied them round the lid with a ribbon. He was so chuffed with himself (as a non-baker!) that he'd made them and they were more than edible.....they were nice!
