TKP wrote:Thank you :T I think this is a great idea for Christmas. I always bake for my cousins and uncle, and am always looking out for something new and unusual - a this certainly fit the bill!
The fact that it can be made way ahead is perfect for me - I hate rushing Christmas and try to organise everything waaaaay before0 -
I used my own banana bread recipe which is:
This makes 4 1pt cakes in a Jar ( only fill till half way up the jar)
:
100g or 3 1/2 oz of butter or margarine
225 g or8 oz of self raising flour
75g or 1/4 oz of caster sugar
125g or 4 1/2 oz of either chopped dates, sultans raisins ( or youcan leave these out.
2 bananas mashed roughly
2 eggs beaten lightly
2 tbsp clear honey
need a greases 2lb loaf tin
preheat over to 160c or gas mark 3 ( bake for 1 hour) (but when doing in a 1 pt jar 160c for 35 - 45 mins max)
sieve flour and rub in the butter
add the rest of the ingredients, pour into the loaf tin
Salivate as the aroma wafts through house
demolish when take out of oven - the last bit is really easy lol!
or when doing in the Jar take one out at a time and make sure to put the lid on straight away, this seals the jar while still hot ( be careful at the jars do get real hot)once cooled just check to make sure the lid is tight.
These sights are helpfull with hints and tips on how to sterilize the jars,

Yes, i was looking a that too, some really good gift ideas. And you could use any Jars for those, so would be a lot cheaper.0 -
well I made them the 4th of March , hubby received them today, as his ship ported at a base, and he got mail, he said they were beautiful, real fresh , so the le Parfait jars were the right ones. So anyone who was interested in making these for gifts or the other mixes, it has been tried and tested and works fine.0

I found a recipe on an american forum for baking a cake mix in glass jars, then as soon as they are done you pop on a sterilised lid and let them cool (the lid should "ping"). It says that the cake will keep for a year. This sounds like a great idea and time saver - has anyone here ever tried it?0

surely the ingrediants woudld be out of date by the end of then??????

I have had tinned fruit cake from American field rations when I was in the army and that keeps for years (They call it pound cake). Tinning and bottling are similar ways of storing something. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Did wonder if you were joking but just looked it up. Sorry I can't be of more help but what an amazing concept!
You do have to use Kilner jars or similar, apart from that it seems you can Google all the instructions that you want!0 -
I don't fancy rancid butter or veg oil if that is used in the cake.:(Money is not the root of all evil.
It depends on how you obtain it and how you use it.
