Dealer desperate to sell me car before end of the month!!!
Last week I agreed the purchase of a six months old car from a major dealership. They offered me a crap price for my very clean car and they would not reduce a penny on their car as they say it has been priced fairly. I liked the car so I agreed to buy. I declined their finance offer which they were pushing hard (12%APR) and I applied for a loan at 6% which was accepted. Originally We agreed that we will complete the sale on Tuesday 31/1 but now I believe the loan money will not be in my account till Friday 3/2. I told the dealer they will have to wait till the weekend and they went mad. They said they have to shift the car by tuesday as it is the end of the month. In the mean time I managed to sell my car privately and got £1000 more for it so I would like to think that I am in a stronger position now...how should I tackle this issue without risking losing my deposit?

Have they threatened to take your deposit off you? Ask them what the options are then... If they didn't reduce their price at all they probably think you're a bit of a pushover, so all hot air from them.
A sh*t dealer if they went mad though, name and shame them after this is all done. Was it a salesman or manager? And if they offer services / mots etc, never go there.0 -
Did you agree to complete the sale before the end of the month (written down)?
If not, just consider that it does not form part of your contract with the dealer - so ignore them.
Its a bit cheeky of them to moan about not selling before month end, even though they have given you no discount on the car you are buying.0 -
I checked the paper work I signed and no where it mentions the collection date. I checked the small print and it clearly states that I will only lose the deposit if i do not collect the car 14 days after being told it is ready for collection which means i still have at least another 10 days...I know that I can borrow some money from friends to complete the purchase before the end of the month but I am thinking why should I have to go through that hasstle if I am not getting any discount n the car..after all I do not give a damn about the dealer targets0

Tell them if they are not happy with the completion date they are more than welcome to refund you the deposit and cancel the sale.
They are powerless in this situation.0 -
Do not let them bully you into buying the car. You are paying so it should be on your terms especially as they are not giving you any discount.0

Either the salesman or the dealer is at risk of missing a target, but that doesn't mean much to the customer. I do query though you claiming you are now in a stronger position. Do you plan to try and renegotiate the deal? Pull out? And would you be just as happy if the dealer resells in the meantime to someone else on the deal, "We agreed".0

Dealer would be in breach of contract if they sold it to someone else within 14 days.
If they did this, you could source a similar car someone else and then take the dealer to the small claims court to recover the difference in the price if sourcing elsewhere cost you extra.0 -
Thank you for all the ideas. I will definitly renegotiate the deal if they want to complete before the end of the month..unless they are prepared to offer a discount they better forget about that. If they decide to wait till next weekend, I will pay them what they are asking for but again I will not buy any of the extra crap they are trying to push (supguard, extended Warranty..etc) unless they offer a discount on the car itself0

If you are not buying it until next month it should be slightly cheaper than if you were buying it this month as it will be a month older.0

Originally We agreed that we will complete the sale on Tuesday 31/1
If this was the other way round you would be moaning - you agreed a deal and now you are breaking it.
On the financial side, regardless of whether they gave you a discount or not, you agreed the deal.
So, on two counts as I can see, you are trying to break the deal.
Integrity works both ways. Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0
