Dad living in my house - is he a tenant?

It would be best to ring or write to the debt collection agencies and tell them that they have the wrong address. You wouldn't want bailiffs turning up during a viewing.0

Flat valued today. Hard work worth it.0

Well done on the next stage.
Just seen your Q about the post.
I'd be returning it to the sender 'Not known here'.0 -

Hello all - the GF here. Nice holiday definitely on the Agenda, thank you!!0

Slightly odd turn of events in the last few days. I've accepted an offer on the flat, which is great. However, Father saw it advertised and has now suddenly decided to write to our solicitor, me, and the rest of the family threatening to take me to court.
It mentions all sorts of things that he shouldn't know - like the contents of letters from the building society about interest rates because I had a tenant (so he was definitely opening my post) and goes on about - the flat not having any water, gas or heating, and that it was unfit for human habitation, and didn't have a gas certificate etc etc. He also mentions that we have lied to the solicitor (?), not paid the right amount of income tax (?) and that the only way round all this 'can of worms' is for me to share the cash with my brother and sister.
I've spoken to my solicitor. She says it is garbage as my father has no interest in the flat, and therefore she can't understand what he can take me to court for?!
Interestingly he knows that my mother has signed a new deed to settle the outcome, but he says she can't sign as 'she lives in sheltered housing'.
It's all quite odd.
He does not know we've accepted the offer, but my brother has said today that clearly we've taken it off the market because of the letter!!
Mother has texted to say he is a troublemaker and she is happy with the settlement which is a good thing. As far as I'm concerned it is nothing to do with him, or my brother. They are stirring up trouble, yet again because they're greedy.
Really I think he should have just said 'I want some money, it's not fair!!!!' and saved the ink and postage.0 -
Oh dear! Fingers crossed your sale goes through fast and your father lays off you!0

It is odd but nothing to be acted upon. By the time he realises that the flat hasn't been taken off the market because of his empty threats but that you have a buyer, it will be too late for him to waste any money, if he has any, on solicitor's letters. He's probably vexed because you've tossed all of his tossing-materials. You should have saved some of it to share with your siblings.0

My God - I've just read the whole thread.
Just ignore his letter (but you know that already).
Once this is over, do use some of the proceeds of the sale to get some counselling. Parents like these will have damaged you in ways you don't even realise yet. You're obviously on the right track now - and it sounds like your GF is brilliant at helping you to see things clearly - but you'll get your head sorted out a lot more quickly with a bit of professional help.0 -
Oh my goodness. I happened upon your thread whilst looking for answers to my own housing problem and have read every page, it's now 4.35 am but I just had to find out if you survived such a traumatic time unscathed!! I'm so pleased that there was a positive outcome. Congratulations on finding the strength to stand up for yourself, and to your GF for supporting you.
Have a wonderful and hopefully bright and carefree future.0
