Cold and dull here too ,brrr.Just been out for a few bits & pieces, but managing to keep food spends under control.Got a few ys meat items-they can go in the freezer.Today there is a huge pork joint in the oven.Thats been in the freezer nearly 12 months:rotfl:so thought I'd better use it,will have roasted veg and spuds with it.Both sons are in for tea-unusual for a Sunday. We've got apple pie(from yesterdays meal deal in Marks) and also baked a ginger cake and a lemon drizzle on Friday.

I made some soap yesterday.DS and Dh were working so I had the place to myself.I've been meaning to do it for over a year and had all the stuff in,and a book,so put on my rubbergloves and tried it out.I've now got 15 bars of lavender soap curing in the garage:).Looks ok but cant use it for 6 weeks. Was a bit scary;) when the lye solution started getting warm, but I was very careful.

    Thinking of Diva today :A

    Flutterby-hope you feel better soon
    ESmf -you too
    CBA peeps-Molly and BB hugs
nmlc-hope DH is ok now -what a scare

    Right,better check my pork etc.
    Peaceful Sunday to you all.xx

Well, it's all of a quandry in this house this weekend. We had found a beautiful home in Northumberland up for sale at a reasonable price, went to view it etc then sat down and started doing a load of research on it before deciding to make an offer. We found out that there was going to be a wind farm not far away but that was no big deal for us at all. It wasn't going to be outside the bedroom window but in the distance and we were okay with that. We then found out that UK Coal formerly known as the National Coal Board (NCB) had put in planning permission to create an open cast mine a few miles down the road - this became the deal breaker!! We have looked at several other areas in Northumberland but there seems to be a situation whereby planning applications for mining are being put in either for coal or mineral extraction.

In truth I don't think we have the stomach to fight against such proposals and my asthma is very much dust induced. We feel pretty gutted that we may have to think our medium to long term furture plans as our heart was always in there. Apparently, there is a big push by government to reduce the dependency on imported gas and coal and to rely on our own energy supplies.

It would have come to light in the searches down by the conveyancing solicitor anyway but an abortive sale would still have cost us a couple of hundred pounds. We know we wantt o move out of the South Midlands but right now we are more than cheesed off. :( Just cannot see a way round this as if we were to spend out and the coal board got approval then we would see the price of the house halved or even more and thats a risk we just cannot take. I am glad we did the research though off our own accord - that has done us well. Sometimes though you get more than you bargained for!

Taplady - I just adore my electric blanket and use it day and night.

Hugs to NMLC and Flutterby and Bargain Bird.

We are back from the Iron Lady. Truly fabulous but controversial as perhaps they should have waited until her death to show it. Very sad but has given me a greater understanding and am in awe of what she achieved for women x

  • Afternoon all

Just had to share that OH made some Welsh cakes on his late dad's griddle just now and they were delicious. FIL used to call them batstones and when he cooked them we couldn't eat them fast enough. He was Welsh, of course. :)

Just the thing for a cold damp January afternoon.

Hugs to all ( and have a virtual batstone hot off the griddle)!

    Noswaith Dda All,

Am back at work, hey ho - it pays the bills!!

NMLC - What a scare, hope DH and you are ok and take it easy.
RosyRed - I didn't know making soap could be explosive!!
ESMF and all who need them - big hugs, I have plenty to spare at the mo.

Well, my baking my have to wait, the oven is still playing silly persons with me and only the top inch is getting hot, so have found a new one online £150 cheaper than in store and will order it tomorrow when DH gets paid. Not wanting to spend silly money as in two years-ish we want to gut the kitchen and start again with it. Thats my excuse for it looking like a bomb site :rotfl:

Have brought my chilli into work poured over jacket spud as the microwave here tends to nuke rice until its crispy.

Am keeping an eye on the weather and hope we dont have to dig ourselves out tomorrow - no, dont think its meant to be that bad - I just hate snow and ice and always look on the black side of the forecast.

    Toodle pip all

I got off my arris and made a double batch of Minestrone Soup with Kid's Dad. Some for the freezer and some for my lunches this week. Hopefully will do a little bit each day!
