Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 29th January. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Very cold here this morning, but I don't intend to go any further than the garden today.
I bought 10 chicken breasts, two gammon joints & some smoked haddock yesterday, the gammon joints have been cooked, sliced & frozen, the haddock & chicken have been portioned up & frozen, I have mince & lamb already in the freezer, so hopefully that will last the month. I have a piece of beef that was reduced to £4 that I have cooked & sliced, we'll have some for lunch today with roast potatoes, yorkies, carrots & HG cabbage.
I made a 3 pint rice pudding yesterday as I had loads of milk, I've portioned it up & frozen it, I shall take some to work in place of yoghurt, I find most bought yoghurt far too sweet.
DGD2 is 1 today & DGD1 is 4 tomorrow, being my usually stingy self, I haven't bought anything for DGD2 & only a small gift for DGD1, but have given DD £40 to get something they need.
Time for another cuppa.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all, before and after! And thanks to Hester for the new thread
Got a NSD yesterday and actually ended the day with more money than I started it with as I had a wee pet sitting job to do in the afternoon. Unfortunately this meant I had to leave my nice, warm house and brave the cold, cold world! Ah well - it is January!
Sunday is my day of rest so I'm planning a fairly major slobbing session with books, cats and magazines thrown in. I'll have my shower later and go to evening Mass. OS-wise I'll be reading and possibly knitting. I'm working on a gift for my father at the moment but am rather daunted by the number of stitches!
Hope everyone else has a good day.Household: Laura + William-cat

Good Morning Hester, Laura and All Who Follow x
Dont think you could be called stingy Hester xx
I have been up since 4.30 am which seems to be my usual wake up time atm. I have this morning already run my DD into work for 6am and shoved my eldest DS into his bedroom with a bowl as he is has just returned home happily intoxicated:eek::eek::eek:
Still no OS happening. I would like to get back to cooking but energy is very low and there is an element of CBA. I really need a shake up:eek::eek::eek:
Going to see the Iron Lady at the cinema later today - more for the reminiscence of the 70/80's, as Im not a fan of Margaret Thatcher but do feel for her now her health has declined.
Hope you all have a really good day xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning all, I don't usually pop into the daily but I feel in need if a bit of virtual company so I hope you don't mind me gatecrashing?
Very cold here (according to hubby who had to let the dog out). A quiet day planned, will go and walk for an hour once it's properly light to burn some calories, then some soup and Stew making is on the cards.
OH is working all weekend so whilst I'm enjoying the peace and quiet I feel a bit "home alone".
Hope everyone has a happy and peaceful dayPiglet

Good Morning All
Molly - enjoy the film I think I would like to see it. I am a fan of hers not so much for her politics but by how far she got as a woman.
Its Sunday yay :j no major plans other than taking DS to football, its the first leg of the cup semi finals so an important match today. Will be wrapping up very warm.
Just about to put Beef in the slowcooker and need to finish a little bit of ironing. Treated myself to a new ironing board, had the last one years and was getting a bit wobbly to say the least.
Will spend the rest of the time pottering and reading. Oh and menu plan for the week.
Have a great day all.x0 -
Good morning everyone,
About half an hour left before I get to go home to bed - woo hoo, on the downside - back in to work by 18:00 - boo.
It's been a fairly steady night, hope we don't get too much snow on lower ground tonight - will mean a busier night and who wants that on a Sunday??
Am feeling the OStylee a lot more these days, SC has been going great guns and even DH has defrosted some mince to make chilli for tonight. Want to do some baking this week on Rota days as well, the Hairy Bikers have got me dreaming about Viennese whirls - yum:D
Big hugs to those in need.

Morning all - positive vibes only here!!! Had a very bad week last week, so this week WILL be better. Got some little DIY jobs finished yesterday - you know the sort - filling holes, patching up bits and pieces. All the things that get left. Have cleaned the kitchen today - which always makes me feel better when thats done. Need to put second coat of paint on the places where I splashed another colour paint in the dining room. Main meal today will be Turkey drummer for the boys and a haggis for DH and me, lunch will be sausage rolls - can you tell I'm emptying the freezer?!!!
Need to pop over to neighbours to get him to fix some cupboard doors for me, and then continue clutter busting. Told the boys they have to clear their toys today or they'll disappear by tomorrow!!!! DS1 wants to go for a dog walk / cycle so will do that later - weather permitting.
Sorry I can't spare any hugs - but am using the ones I normally give out to patch up the holes in me - hope to be back to normal soon xxx You wonderful people keep me sane.Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0
