Two slice of four slice? To be fair I'd just buy the Value one from Tescos - their stuff's pretty good unless you want any special features!

Hi, there! Last year I got a brand new, but basic and small, toaster from Freecycle. It's worked really well and the Young Penguins have used it loads.

I'd now like to replace it with something a bit better. Any recommendations? I've merged this with other toaster threads, but as models change regularly, I'm asking for what's available now.

I'd love a Dualit, but not sure I can justify the price :o

I've been through more toasters than I can remember but a couple of years ago invested in a Dualit. Definitely one of those things worth paying for - they make great toast, don't go wrong and will outlast most others. And they look great!

Same principle for me with anything that gets a lot of use in our household of six - washing machine, mixer, food processor, iron, dishwasher etc are all top of range. When our last toaster died, I made do without until I could afford the Dualit and glad I did.

I'd just like to add another vote for Dualit. They are ludicrously expensive, and my wife and I put one on our wedding list as the quintessential wedding present. Thankfully, a generous friend bought it for us and since we got it it's easy to see why it's got the reputation it has.

It seems like it could make toast all day for the rest of my life and still keep going. That's a change to all my previous toasters that have broken down after a few years.

It's a lot to stump up in one go for a toaster though, and it's unlikely I would have bought one left to my own devices. I'm very glad now I have it though, and would now buy one if I didn't have one already.

Thanks for your replies :A I'm still trying reaaaaaaaaaaly hard to resist a Dualit but failing badly

Magentasue and 20000rpm - can you tell me which model you have? I've been reading reviews and the Dualit Lite, while cheaper, has dreadful reviews for reliability. They're then impossible to repair, too :o

I have the combi 4-slice. You can choose one, two or four slices to toast.

One thing to bear in mind is that you have to get used to using it. You don't just put bread in and press 'go', but instead have to choose the time you want it to toast for. There's a marker on the timing dial to show you an average slice, but you need to modify this depending on how fresh the bread is (older needs less time) and what kind of bread it is (e.g. wholemeal needs longer than white).

It doesn't pop up when done either, but instead stays in the slot so it doesn't go cold straight away.

Oh, also make sure you have room for it because it's quite bulky!

I have the basic four slice one. Similar to 2000RPM's. Oooh, you're tempted, aren't you!
