thanks everyone. I love the dualit toasters but not sure if i could get hubby to part with that much cash. We have an electric grill and its naff for toast.
most of the time the bread is a day old or two but i still manage to get it stuck, our toaster is a very cheap and nasty tho.

:D i know its sounds silly but i need a new toaster and want one that doesnt make too much mess. i bought a really cheap one a few months ago and its rubbish! the bread doesnt even fit in it properly!

ideally i would love to use the grill but ours is electric and takes forever so not practical in the morning rush!

i really would like one that doesnt leave a pile of crumbs under it and has variable thickness for hm bread!

    any ides or recomendations?

    thanks

  • I have an old dualit toaster which i brought in 1999 from a local fish and chip shop when it closed, it is the only toaster that has ever lasted me over 18 months! there is nothing to go wrong as it is a very simple mechanism with a manual lever to put toast up or down, the elements do wear out occasionaly but are about £10 each and easy to replace, on ebay there are several older ones like mine for quite reasonable prices, i would never have another make (and will hopefully keep this one for many more years!!)

I have a Kenwood elevatio which I love! It even has a reheat button if you leave your toast to get cold. It has those adjustable sides, a crumb tray and a little wire rack that raises up to warm croissants on.

mine sounds like the same one as moggins'. i have to say as i don't really eat bread these days i don't use it much, but it is very good. the wire rack is really useful to warm wraps when doing fajitas etc too. my mum has the same one, we've both had them over 5 years and she used hers all the time

  • I have a dualit too ....wouldn't be without it ,it's a 3 slicer and manages to toast my rather thick slices.

I bought mine on ebay with money I'd made , it was expensive but worth it IMO.

If you want durability, I would second a Dualit one. When I was at uni they were in all the halls and lasted years of student abuse with no problems whatsoever.

However, we don't actually use a toaster for space reasons, and just use the grill instead.

When you buy one Try a melamine tray underneath. It works brilliantly with mine. Tray 99p Asda fits perfectly. Sarer

thanks for that, not sure i can quite justify £120 for a dualit one. we use them in the hospitals so they prob are worth the investment

I have a kenwood 2 slice toaster with wire rack ( which is not used often in my opinion), it has a crumb tray, a reheat and a defrost button. Its going strong after 8 years with plenty of use every day. It wasn't expensive.
