can anyone recommend a toaster?

Options
We make our own bread using our wonderful Panasonic BM. My usual batch are wholemeal rolls as they do well for breakfast and lunch for us all. DD and Dh like them toasted for breakfast, so I cut into three and toast them.

Our toaster is v old and on the verge of expiring and I would like to buy a new one which is particularly suitable for toasting BM items i.e will do wide bread and has an extra lift capacity so that my dd could, if needed do her own toast without having to fish down into the toaster to get item out.

Would love to hear from other BM fans if they have a great toaster that does this. Don't mind spending up to about £50 so can't afford a dualit - January grocery challenge going well but not that well :rotfl:

Thanks

I have a Breville one that I love & does all the things you want, but I can't recommend it because it's been discontinued :( I've had a look at their current models but can't figure out which one is the updated equivelant

try to go & have a look at them before you buy, I bought & returned a couple before I settled on the one I have now, because they were not what they appeared to be in the catalogue/on the box ... for example 'wide' slots not being wide enough to take a slice of hand-cut HM bread or a halved roll or bagel. I also returned one that toasted very unevenly, a surprisingly common problem

something else you might want to look out for is 'extra long slots' very handy for toasting/defrosting pita bread, & you can usually get 2 slices at a time in one of them

    HTH :)
  • Hi,

Hardly one for moneysaving, but I have been very happy with our Dualit. Built like a tank, and no poppy up mechanism to go wrong, just a stout lever.

However, they are insanely expensive as I believe they are made by hand in the UK. Spares are readily available, not that I have needed any in the two or so years we have had our 3 slot one.

The bread from our panasonic BM fits well too, even when I have been cutting it.

Bit of a design icon too, of course!

    Hope that helps,

    Regards,

    White.

(PS I have not scanned for cheap prices just provided an amazon link above - (non affiliate), Costco are often cheapest if you are a member)
  • Thanks for your help - yes would like a dualit but out of price range I'm afraid. Did take the advice about going and looking as normally buy online and got a 4 slice Breville style for £17.50 which doesn't seem bad. Does HM bread really well and has a good lift mechanism so my children can toast rolls and get them out safely!

I'm fed up of having to stick the knife in my toaster:eek: to retrieve stuck bits of bread that are burning before the rest of the slice toasts.

Can anyone sugest a good toaster, 4 slice if possible, that toasts breadmaker bread to perfection without it getting jammed in the toaster. I tend to cut the bread medium sliced and it usually collapses, bends in the middle and then gets stuck

We've got a Tefal Avanti Deluxe four-slice which I haven't had any problems with. In Argos it's about £50 but on Amazon I got it for £25.

Dualit make a bomb proof 4 slot toaster with quite wide slots - I have a 3 slot version which is great for my Home Made bread.

However, they are NOT cheap! :o

If you have a gas grill, I believe it's cheaper to use that, and it's certainly easier when you're toasting uneven pieces of bread. (Ours isnt gas unfortunately, so I only do this if I'm toasting a lot.)
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

Are you toasting freshly baked bread?

I find HM bread at least 1 day old is best for toasting.
Here I go again on my own....
