I got my first speeding ticket

I don't really think telling some to shut up their whinging because they got caught redhanded is sanctamonious.
I find people preaching about the unfairness of speeding fines sanctamonious. yYes, insurance companies are b*stards, we are all well aware of that, and they will do anything to get money out of you.
I wonder if people would have the same sympathy towards a shoplifter or someone who hasn't got a tv licence.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I've decided to change my post.
I am young, stupid, and have got myself in thousands of pounds worth of debt, buying crap I don't need, with money I haven't got. I earn £1 per week, and the banks are charging me a zillion quid in interest.
Boo Hoo.
Can I have a hug?
I can't believe the sanctamonious nonsense that has been spouted here. I have messed up no more than anyone else on this site, and what do they get? Tons of advice, including from me.
Thank you Cullin and coupon-mad. You are here for the right reason. Helping people get out of the crap, not lecturing them.
I'll add savagevixen to the list of good guys"Don't critisise what people look like, how they speak, where they are from, and what they are called. They cannot help it.

I have suffered this recently too. I am a mother and i do not drive too fast. Near where we live there is an area leaving a village, this area is not residential and heads into a long straight bit of road that is 40, however the speed limit is 30. It is a notorious stretch of road, where drivers creep (in error) over 30. This seems to be because you are heading onto a 40 and have clear visibility.
I have been caught here twice once doing 35 and once 36. For both I have received £60 fine and 3 points.
Before I am accused of being an irresponsible formula 1 driver that is a danger to everyone's children, I would like to point out that I accepted these points although I feel extremely annoyed as I genuinely don't feel this particular area warrants this level of speed camera police, there are many places where people speed and risk lives, near schools etc. However I was caught speeding and it is an offence. My understanding, guided by the kindly officer dealing with my case informed me that you are given an allowance of 10% of the speed restriction, thus 33 in a 30, 44 in a 40....
A person who is caught speeding, knows they were in the wrong (surely) and does not need to read the evil sanctimonious bile submitted by mse members who clearly like nothing better than being smug.
I am sure that Martin makes a point of asking MSE users to be kind to all members, not rude and patronising.:starmod: I am not that savage :heartpuls But I am a Vixen :staradmin0 -
So what is worse? Near our local primary school there is a speed camera, 30 mph. And because it's 30 some people think it's OK to drive past the school at 3.05 at 30mph. On Sunday afternoon the camera will get you if you go past at 34mph.
Fair enough, over the limit but which is more dangerous? If speed cameras were more suited to local conditions people would perhaps have more respect for them.Love living in a village in the country side0 -
OK, look at the logically, on what gounds would you dispute the ticket?.
You cannot say you were not speeding, as you were, so that is not grounds, even if you argue you were not and are happy to lie in court then the evidence is agisnt you and that is what they will believe.
Argueing you made a mistake and won't do it again is not gounds for an appeal, whatever your view, just take your medince, grace does not come into it, you brike the law, you were luck you did not hit someone or someone did not run out in front of you.
What may be worrth conisdering is to get caught not only did you have to speed, but you also had to fail to see a bright yellow speed camera, if you failed and got caught this time, it is quite possible that you have made the same mistake in the past, l possibily without realising it.
Take it as a warning and be careful in the fufutre.
You have no grounds I can see to contest the ticket.
BTW, if you have a clean drving record andnno accident then it may add between about £20 - £80 a year onto your insurance depending on what company group etc.0 -
thanks savage vixen. Seems we are in the same boat.
I'd like to see what the other posters would do if they got a ticket like we have.
I take pride in the courtesy I show to other road users (cyclists, pedestrians, and yes little kiddies too) I have to drive round London at 3.30, when the place is full of school kids oblivious to the danger and riding on paths, with no lights. i make a point of being much more cautious. Also often have to dodge courier cyclists in central London (don't even get me on that subject). To be bracketed as dangerous is totallly beyond my comprehension."Don't critisise what people look like, how they speak, where they are from, and what they are called. They cannot help it.

good point. Seems like a bunch of bureaucrats make these numbers up, and get it checked by the accountants to see the council will make a profit on the camerain_my_wellies wrote:So what is worse? I don't think there's anything you can do to contest it. Speeding ticket will likely do quite a bit of damage to your insurance, in my opinion, but go try some online insurance companies and get some dummy quotes to see maybe.
Sorry and good luck with that.
Speed limits are a lowest common denominator; they're the speed deemed safe most of the time, rather randomly and at some point in the past by some bureacrat project team. It's not always safe to go at the speed limit, and by the same token it's frequently (yes, FREQUENTLY, just not always) safe to exceed it in today's vehicles and on today's roads, depending entirely upon conditions.0 -

Initially, I just asked you a question, it was when you started attacking other people I got p*ssed off. Fair enough you might not agree with what they've got to say, but that's no reason to abuse them.
Yes, I see your point that there are people who do far worse than you and get away with it, it's really annoying when you've made one mistake and they do it all the bleedin' time.
I don't see any further point in either me or anyone else posting about the "error of your ways", as you've had enough of an earbashing, and I think the thread may have gone too far from both camps, and I'm sorry for my outburst back there.
Back to your other question, unless you are with an insurer who specifically requires you to have no points, it is very unlikely that it will affect your insurance, as sp30s are extremely common. Also the fact that you do so much mileage, would take into account the increased likelihood of your having an accident, or a fixed penalty notice.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
